Absolutely terrible customer service. NITAYA has a terrible attitude and was extremely rude. I purchased sanukiya udon which had a sales ad on the door of the fridge stating a purchase price of $3.99. After purchase, I checked my receipt, and I noticed that I paid $6.99. Just to make sure that I was not incorrect, I went back to the udon corner to make sure the ad stated the udon would be $3.99. It was and I even took a photo. So, I went to customer service to ask for credit or what had happened. There was another lady who was also at customer service for the same reason as me because she had bought 4 sanukiya udon packs and was also wondering why it wasn't $3.99. One lady and one gentleman (who according to the lady was the manager) left to check what price the udon was. The lady's name, according to the refund receipt, is Nitaya. They checked for a while and Nitaya brought back with another korean noodle, telling me THAT was the one one sale for $4.99 and that there was no such ad for sanukiya udon in a terrible attitude, doubting what I said. In disbelief, I, along with the lady who came to dispute as well, went back to check with Nitaya and found that the ad was gone. I showed them the photo I took by the udon, with a time stamp. Wayyyy too coincidently, I saw a worker passing by holding the $3.99 sanukiya udon ad in his hand. I asked him to bring it to me and they suddenly wanted to dissipate the whole situation. After going home and looking into the ad again, I realized that the ad was promoting a sale that starts 7/13-14. In that case, I understand why the udon was priced at $6.99. However, this was something that I realized myself and customer service had not mentioned or communicated this with me. Therefore my question is, why was the ad suddenly taken off the fridge at such a coincidental time when not only has the sale not occurred yet, but will be happening in the next day? Regardless of the situation, the customer service towards me and the other lady who was with me was absolutely atrocious. Not only did they doubt has and make us think we were crazy, but they refused to believe concrete evidence of a photo I took. Really disappointed. The other lady with me stated "I will never be coming back to Tokyo Central again." I'm also wondering what the gentleman, whom Nitaya stated was the manager, just stood there acting like he couldn't see or...
Read moreReview for Tokyo Central Costa Mesa:
As a longstanding patron of Marukai and Tokyo Central for over 15 years, my recent visit to the Costa Mesa location left me profoundly disappointed. While shopping for groceries, including a significant purchase of several hundred dollars, I encountered an exceptionally discourteous incident revolving around a clay pot.
Having previously purchased the same clay pot twice for my parents, I sought a smaller size for their convenience. Upon reaching the display, I discovered the small size was sold out, leaving only a sample stand atop a box. Unsure if the box contained the product, I cautiously checked. To my shock, an older Japanese lady with shoulder-length hair and glasses began shouting at me, accusing me of breaking rules and treating me with disdain.
Despite my efforts to explain the situation calmly, she continued to berate me, refusing to listen or allow me to clarify. Feeling deeply embarrassed and upset, I attempted to seek resolution by asking for her name. However, her response was dismissive and unhelpful. Seeking further assistance, I requested to speak to the manager.
Unfortunately, the manager's response was equally disappointing. Instead of addressing the mistreatment I endured, he seemed more interested in minimizing the situation. The lack of apology from both the staff member and the store management was profoundly disheartening.
What was particularly troubling was the subtle change in demeanor once it became apparent I was not a Chinese tourist, suggesting a potential issue with racism within the establishment. As an Asian customer, experiencing such poor treatment raises concerns about how non-Japanese customers are perceived.
It is unacceptable for any customer to be subjected to such disrespectful behavior. The absence of basic customer service standards from the staff member is deeply concerning. In light of this experience, I feel compelled to share my story on social media and boycott Tokyo Central Costa Mesa. I urge others to reconsider supporting an establishment that fails to prioritize respect and professionalism towards...
Read moreMy family and I drove two hours out of town to visit Tokyo central because we saw all the yelp reviews raving about their "great" selection of cheap sushi rolls. I also called the store beforehand and was told that the sushi chefs prepare the rolls daily. We were all very excited when we arrived, they had a large variety and everything looked fresh. We spent over $200 on their sushi, but when we got home we were all UNPLEASANTLY SURPRISED by how OLD the fish in all of the sushi was. The salmon nigiri looks fresh on the surface, but underneath it is firmly textured, old dried flesh of expired fish. We thought we scored a big deal on the maki, but the fish inside was shriveled, BROWNED from expiration, and had a jerky-like texture. We tried so hard to eat the sushi- but the hard chewy textures and extremely fishy tastes were unbearable. It's as if the sushi was strategically placed so that it appears to be fresh when it's actually expired and has a jerky- like texture and extremely fishy taste. I am not exaggerating when I say this sushi had an extremely rotted pungent taste and foul fishy odor. Even while standing to take these pictures a fishy smell kept running up to my nose. Sushi is NOT supposed to taste sour, smell fishy, have brown spots, or be hard to chew. Unfortunately I threw the maki rolls away before taking a picture of the fish on the inside, which was shriveled pieces of old brown chewy fish. The sashimi pieces were slimy, extremely chewy, fishy, and foul smelling. Everything in the picture, including other stuff we purchased worth $200-$300 had to be thrown in the trash because of how expired everything was. Overall, the only good items we purchased were their Onigiri Rice Balls and noodles. I hope this review is helpful for anyone thinking that they might be scoring a deal by going to this place. The cheap prices are definitely NOT worth the terrible, terrible quality. The sushi literally tasted like a...
