Eightfold Tea Shoppe — Restaurant in Costa Mesa

It’s rare for me to really dislike a bubble tea spot but unfortunately this place gave me a bad experience and really disappointed me. Through Yelp, I ordered online for pickup and when I arrived, I was told by the staff that they had no access to the online ordering system. While I don’t blame the staff over having no control over the online ordering service, she wasn’t very helpful or knowledgeable over the issue. I had to called Grubhub to resolve the issues and luckily the customer service there was helpful.

Online ordering aside, I ended up ordering their signature milk tea with boba. The cup itself had an odd parchment like paper sealing the cup and a plastic lid on top. When I first took a sip, I had to resist the urge to spit it out because the flavor shocked me. I was expecting some type of milky black tea with a hint of brown sugar but instead received a weird minty flavor with a bad aftertaste of unpleasant bitterness. Whatever tea was used in their signature milk tea was not a black tea I’m familiar with and this is coming from a tea lover. So I ordered a salted caramel fresh milk no ice and half sugar. Not only they left a huge gap from top of the bottle ( which the worker did mention if I get no ice there will be a gap, but normally when I get the same drink from other place they wouldn’t leave any gap), but they somehow still added little ice in there. Like seriously? It’s just milk. It’s not even something that expensive. I can pay you 25 cents more if that’s what needed for you to fill the entire bottle plus the drink originally comes with pudding which I told them to take it off, therefore giving me a little bit extra milk shouldn’t be too much to ask? How can a place like this getting a rate this high? Learn how to treat your customers!...

This tea shoppe is such a sweet treat wherever I'm in this area of Costa Mesa! I love their drinks especially the milk tea ones. The consistency of the dairy and the sweetness level is just right. The ambient is cute with little boba drink plushies and the service is courteous and quick. It hasn't been crowded on any of my visits. They offer a stamp card program.
