Stones Throw — Local services in Cotati

Nice selection and store, but I will not be back due to the surly and rude way I was treated by the cashier, a young Asian woman, for no reason that I could discern.

I had asked her to keep the stone descriptions with each individual stone, so that I could tell them apart when I got home, but instead she wrapped all the stones together, separate from their descriptors. When I politely repeated my request to keep the stones with their descriptors, she responded "You should have told me." Such a rude way to speak to a customer, and the rudeness continued throughout our interaction, with the cashier grunting directions at me or simply not responding when I spoke. I remained pleasant throughout, and even thanked her for her help and wished her a pleasant evening when I left, to which I did not receive a reply.

I don't think it's too much to ask for basic manners during such interactions--all I was looking for was please, thank you, and a pleasant return of my good-bye and well-wishes. Instead I was met with scolding, surliness, and silence.

Not a good experience! I spent $75 there today, mostly on stones, and unfortunately the stones I bought there are now tainted with the negativity of that interaction--not sure how healing they'll be for me now.

Maybe the cashier was just having a bad day, but if this is her usual modus operandi, I can see her driving customers away. I certainly won't be subjecting myself to such odd and rude treatment again.

ETA: In response to the owner's reply: I am glad to hear that the cashier does not normally treat customers so rudely. All I know is that I was treated with a lot of hostility throughout our interaction, and it was markedly noticeable.

Right after visiting Stones Throw, I went to Cottage Gardens and Lombardi's in Petaluma, and at both places I was treated with such kindness and respect. I remember feeling so relieved to be having such pleasant interactions after being treated with such hostility.

I'm glad the owner feels she has an employee that represents her business well. Perhaps my experience was an anomaly. I felt very hurt and angered by how I was treated, and that experience was so negative, that I can't imagine giving this place a second chance. I came there for healing, but instead was given hostility. I feel sad that I spent $50 in stones to seek healing and help, and now those stones are tainted with such negativity. I'm hoping I will find a way to purify them so they don't have these hostile vibrations and associations. The whole thing is such a shame. Small, but well stocked shop with a nice variety of entry level mineral specimens, flats with roughs, and some cut gems. Generally low cost, bulk stuff, but some mid range pieces. Nothing especially rare, but a few unusual types like shattuckite, dioptase, rhodo, etc. The place has a decidedly "spiritual" tilt. Many new age gifts, jewelry and tchotchkes. Workers were positive and friendly overall, but I would like to see more emphasis on the geology of specimens. The specimens lacked key details on locality and species on many pieces. Locality on specimens is key info for ethical collectors to ensure proper identification of sources; frankly it's more important than supposed metaphysical properties. Shop could use better lighting too... But overall a fun little shop in a cute small downtown district right...

This is an amazing store filled with so many beautiful stones. I have no clue why other posters are picking at it with ridiculous details. What I love, besides the beautiful stones is that some of us are on a budget, and there are many reasonable priced stones to pick from or there are higher end if that is what you want.
