Brakes Plus — Local services in Council Bluffs

When in the brakes Plus for a oil change about a week ago of course paid to have them to do a vehicle inspection too they told me that I need a new valve covers gaskets and spark plugs so I'm like okay how much is that going to be they told me$1,600 and I took $100 off which brought it down to 1500 got the vehicle back on Saturday would have got it back sooner but with the tornadoes it took them a little longer only to find out.. valve covers spark plugs and gaskets was not the issue why I was having issues with my vehicle stalling out coming to find out by taking it to amco that it was a dead cylinder now my complaint with brakes Plus is I feel like if they ran a full vehicle diagnostic they probably could have found out that it was a dead cylinder instead of me spending $1,500 to replace valve covers gaskets and spark plugs but then again I'm not a mechanic but I feel as though they dropped the ball on this one because I feel like they even if it would have cost me $200 more I feel like they could have ran a full vehicle diagnostic and found out about the dead cylinder that way maybe then I could have taken into amco like it already is sitting in an amco now and save 1,500 from brakes Plus being that I have to have a full engine swap and not just valve covers. I feel like if I was to ask for a refund I feel like I'd be wasting my breath on this even though I feel like they may have misdiagnosed what was actually wrong with my vehicle it's just been an all-around rough week entirely the only upside to this is that my vehicle is still under warranty through the dealership I am financing the car through to where the engine swap is covered under warranty all but a...

This Brakes Plus location is awesome! Hands down the best customer service of any auto repair shop I've visited. Christina and Derek were honest, friendly, and incredibly helpful from start to finish. After calling to see if they had an old 99 Honda part, Christina immediately did some research, found the part, and called me back 5 minutes later. After all the work was finished, Derek gave me some great advice that has helped prevent further vandalism to my vehicle ever since. Such excellent work by very helpful people.

One minor critique in my situation is that I had to take my car back on several occasions for further tweaks to work that probably could have been done more thoroughly the first time. Nothing too drastic, just small tweaks to the parking break and steering that weren't initially dialed in quite tightly enough.

But they were always friendly, professional, and prompt about correcting those issues.

Overall, I absolutely recommend this place for anyone seeking good, honest, auto repair.

Update 6-13-24: Took my car to this shop again for an oil leak. They got it in right away. Fixed the same day. A couple days later I had a few more questions. They got my car into the shop right away upon arrival. Ryan and Adam were professional and courteous. They took their time answering all my questions. Ryan told me about some good thickening products for my oil and even walked over with me to advance to help me find the stuff I needed. They didn't charge me for spending time rechecking my car and answering questions.

They are honestly so wonderful here! I came in a couple of days ago because my car was pulling really badly to the left. They did an alignment, an oil change, and also checked my tires. But when I got home, my car was still pulling to the left. I started to worry they might have missed the alignment, especially since they almost forgot to charge me for it when I was checking out.

So I went back today to ask if they could take another look, and the staff was SO kind and understanding. The gentleman I spoke with even asked his boss if they could recheck the alignment for me at no extra charge! They did it again, and the mechanic came out and showed me how they’d gotten everything back to factory settings.

Even though my car was still drifting to the right, he kindly explained that it might be due to a frame issue, possibly from a previous accident, and that it wasn't something the alignment could fix. He could tell I was feeling pretty stressed, so he took the time to offer suggestions and talk me through what might be going on – even though it really wasn’t his responsibility. I really appreciated how helpful and compassionate he was! They even told me if I need the alignment done again after getting the frame fixed, they would take care of it at no charge.
