Firstly I would like to make clear this review is for the Franklin/Cranberry Home Depot, my review of the one in Las Vegas still stands. I have lived here in Western PA since April 2023. Many people, places, and things are quite different than where I spent most of my adult life, Las Vegas. Home Depot here proved to be no different. It was one of the first stores I found after buying a home. Right off the bat I was startled at the pace of the store. It was eerily quiet. 5 million people live in Vegas so I get it, but it’s bears pointing out, that this less busy of a store could effect variables such as staffing, hours and selection. I have actually wondered how this store keeps a profit margin when the store is imo very well staffed. I can’t say I saw a significant difference in a store that was probably 75-85 percent busier. This has not translated into better contact with staff however. I always was greeted, and contacted numerous times while in a store. Yes, sometimes it was a bit annoying, but I must admit I miss the helpful attitude. When I have searched someone out because I had an actual need I have been sorely disappointed. I asked where the mini blinds were and was shown a storm door that had a blind on it, looking for clarification only led to frustration. Someone when asked a question said “that’s a very good question” in sincerity I believe, only to turn around and disappear with no real communication for a few minutes. I have come to find it easier to use my HD app to find items. Not all questions have been this frustrating. Once when looking for spackle/ drywall mud, a very informed woman directed me across the store to larger containers that were more my need. I believe this HD could use some type of boost to their training. I’m not in management anymore, so I don’t like to be harsh when I am unsure of the parameters people are working under, but clearly some improvements could be made. Lastly and something I am a bit hesitant to mention, so as not to offend, is the clear practice of hiring those in our community of LGBTQ applicants. I’m am not in tune with HD as a corporate entity, so I do not know if they are a DEI company. Frankly I don’t care. Hire whomever you wish to hire for whatever reason you wish to hire them. This being said, a person is going to be set up for failure if they can’t not perform the job they are hired for. This does not help the person or society as prejudices continue. I have had some at this store who were completely competent at their job, I was in returns that day. However it’s been my experience that I have encountered quite a few of these employees who just did not have the basic knowledge of the area they were assigned to. Again, I have no ill will towards anyone, in fact I feel some sadness as I see them being used by a large corporation to meet its bottom line while actually doing a disservice to these employees. I really don’t feel like massaging these social issues when I go shopping at Home Depot, and this has led to me looking at other alternatives. I don’t miss the traffic, heat, lack of rain or snow, but I do miss...
Read moreWorst experience ever in a Home Depot. An older man (not a gentleman) asked if I needed assistance. I asked if he could show me where the shower assemblies were so that I could purchase one that was the same design and size as the one that I had removed from our shower. Rather than simply point me in the correct direction, he began to speak to me in a very condescending manner. I can only assume it is because I am a woman. He continuously stated he "didn't understand HOW I knew it was broken". I explained it was leaking and that I initially intended to simply replace the internal cylinder however the set screw broke so now I needed to purchase the entire unit. He again began that he just couldn't understand how I KNEW it was broken. I again explained it was leaking water. He then pulled out a notebook and actually started drawing a picture of the internal cylinder that I wanted to replace telling me there was NO WAY I could know it was leaking since I didn't get it out. He then proceeded to tell me he didn't even know HOW I removed the entire fixture. I told him I removed the screw, opened the access panel, disconnected the pex plumbing, and removed it from the back. When he continued, I told him I would take my business elsewhere and left. I will go to Lowe's or another hardware store from now on. I do not deserve to be treated this way because of my gender. I have never been treated so horribly when completing...
Read moreThings have changed at The Depot. I've lost track of how many full houses I built using them. 35 years ago they hired professionals. If you talked plumbing you were talking to an actual plumber etc... Now days you are mostly likely on your own which is okay, however after 60 years in the business I don't need them. My biggest problem is FINDING what I need. Don't get me wrong I still use them (mostly because they're the only game). With that said, just yesterday I had a plumbing problem and miraculously I came across an older employee and he helped me find what I was looking for BECAUSE he knew exactly what I was talking about. I was pleasantly surprised and happy to find someone with knowledge. If you come across the rare employee that has some knowledge your trip will be more successful. Hit or miss though. 3 weeks ago I didn't have the same result. Ordered a complete kitchen for my new build. Delivery was 2 days late and had zero resemblance of my order. Supposed to pick up the mistake yesterday ooops they didn't arrive. So my build is delayed waiting for my correct order and I have a room full of the wrong...
