Powell Wellness Center — Local services in Culpeper

This place is an Oasis. I was raised in this area and I’ve gone here on and off for a decade and recently have returned for a bit for some intensive healing. I’m 31 btw. Everything about this place is done right. Staff are outstanding and willing to not only educate you but help you and make you feel like family here. The crowd that comes here are mature and kind. Wonderful environment for all ages. Gym, pool, sauna, hot tub, and more equipment you can handle. Place is kept in immaculate condition. Sterile. These people CARE. Even down to the radio music being just right these guys have a recipe for success that never needs changed. I love these people here too. Indy, Taylor, Shannon and many others who have helped me feel at home away from home. I’m so grateful and I can EASILY see the value in investing in a membership here. Don’t look at pricing and just do it. You won’t miss that money. Your health will thank you after even just a single day spent here. If I move back here (which I’m highly contemplating, I’d not only have a full membership but I’d get a job here.) Also the smoothies are to DIE for and I’ve bought enough to cover a membership so I KNOW XD. Flavors like the peanut butter blast, Java jolt, I love veggie are top tier. P.S. as for a smoothie punch card to track rewards for a free smoothie one day! God...

Abusively high joining registration fee. They charge the cost of over 2 months dues for a made up garbage charge. The facility is nice but the hours are very limited. I initially gave them 2 stars. Today the owner called me and tried to justify his decision to tack on the initial registration fee up front. I let him spin a tale of half truths and misrepresentations for several minutes. At a certain point I couldn't take it any longer. He said his gym gives away free memberships to those in need. I told him you don't give away free memberships, your members pay for them in their dues. That's reality. If you decide to join this gym and pay the upfront Initiation fee, the gym could go bankrupt the next day and there would be nothing you could do about it. Paying upfront initiation fees that are this high is bad...

I love Powell. It is my happy place. The facility is clean and well stocked with all types of equipment. The pool is the greatest resource in the county. The spin bikes, TRX, free weights are in good shape. The remodel is great, but we could use another room for group exercise. The free trials on the premium training is a great idea, wish they could do that again. The Zumba glow parties are so much fun, I wish we could do that with spin and step classes, as well as the new releases from Les Mills. The new tubes, free weights and kettleballs are terrific, thank you all. Kelly R, Mandy, Sarah Mahoney, Kaori, Kimberly and Demetria are fabulous instructors. Annette is wonderful. The Barre class is great, wish we could get it regularly. I love this place and do my best to let others know how...
