Iâve been going to compassionate care for over 6 years with both of my English bulldogs. Theyâre frequent fliers and I end up having take trips to the vet almost every 4-8 weeks for one reason or another. Iâve never been late for an appointment or missed an appointment ever. Iâve spent thousands upon thousands of dollars annually here. I had an apt scheduled for one of my dogs today (Monday at 12:20) because heâs had some pretty bad inflamed lumps between his toes. I had brought them to the vets attention 6 weeks ago during a routine wellness apt and they said if they didnât get better to have them rechecked when I came back in to get the rest of his annual shots. 6 weeks later they were still pretty bad and I had asked if they could recheck them while I was in the office and he was getting the rest of his shots. I was told I needed to schedule yet another appointment to have them looked at because a vet wasnât available to look at them (even though I was told to ask during this visit): aka- âwe need more of your money.â I didnât make a big deal about it though and just scheduled another appointment. Luckily over this past weekend they got better so this morning (Monday) I called to cancel the appointment since it seemed pointless with them getting better. I also know itâs extremely hard for pet owners to get same day sick appointments (as Iâve struggled numerous times to do so and had to take my dogs to Tufts emergency room in walpole instead) so I know someone else will scoop my appointment up quickly. When I called they said that I would lose my deposit because I was cancelling within 24 hours. I get having a cancellation policy for people who are frequent offenders or no shows but I have been coming there for literally 6.5 years, at least 10-12 times per year between my two dogs, have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars each year, and have NEVER cancelled or missed an appointment. I also stated that yesterday I noticed his paws were much better and that it didnât make sense to come but theyâre closed on Sundays so I couldnât actually cancel the appointment. I was then told had I left a message yesterday then I wouldnât have lost my deposit and thereâs nothing they can do about it. Yes, yes they can. This business isnât a large corporate organization. Itâs a small business that makes their own rules. I completely understand having a cancellation policy like this as I have the same policy with my own business but you donât screw the good and loyal clients. Especially since we both know someoneâs scooping up that appointment immediately and itâs doing them a favor freeing it up for a pet who truly needs it. This really put a horrible taste in my mouth and I will now be switching to a new vet. The name of the business has really gone out the window since 2020 and...
Read moreCame here with my cat a few years back because someone recommended them for being very kind. Was met with coldness, attitude, judgement and the actual facility was dirty, noisy, and lacked compassion. What they ultimately provided was a traumatic experience in the face of putting my best friend down.
My cat was born with an esophageal defect and over time it was closing up. I brought him in to this place, with all his vet history from MSPCA Angell in Boston, hoping to have a good experience closer to home but knowing we may have to put him down.
The staff here looked down on me for my financial situation, didn't offer any alternatives. The woman who was the doctor was very abrasive. She lacked any compassion for my situation. After making what felt like a rushed and partially coerced decision to put my cat down through mouthfuls of tears and dogs barking loudly and making the cat nervous, they took my boy away into the back room. They told me they would be right back with him, they needed to put the arm catheter in to administer the medicine that would put him to sleep. When they brought him in the room ( nearly 45 minutes later) they said he was troublesome so they needed to sedate him early, without me there. I never got to say a proper goodbye to him with him lucid at all. It was the worst expereince I have ever had putting an animal down and I would never reccomend anyone go here. They didn't even say they were sorry for my loss, didn't tell me to take my time, and even seemed to judge me for crying. He was my best friend and this place ruined our last moments. Wish I had called for a refund or walked out without paying because it's been years and thinking about it still...
Read moreWeâve been bringing our pup to Compassionate Care for years now. Our previous vet was very rough with our dog, to the point where he was terrified of going to the vet. That wasnât the case here. The staff at Compassionate Care have always been absolutely lovely with our dog, to the point where his fear eventually went away. They are gentle but thorough, incredibly friendly, and - as their name states - compassionate. When our pup got sick, they handled him with the utmost care and made sure he was comfortable as they did everything they could to make him feel better. They called us with updates on his status, and after we took him home, they made sure to call us to check in and see how he was doing. When the day that every pet owner dreads came, the staff at Compassionate Care was absolutely wonderful. They worked us into their busy schedule and let us do everything we could to make sure that our last moments with our dog were as comfortable for him as possible. We were offered sympathy and privacy when we needed it, and given the time we needed to grieve. Our technician, Julie, deserves a particular shout-out. She was there for our boy when he was sick, and she made what is always a difficult experience much more bearable. She offered us empathy at our lowest moment, and for that we will always be grateful. If youâre looking for a vet who genuinely cares for your companion, look no further than Compassionate Care in Cumberland. When we eventually get another dog, we will absolutely be hopeful to return...
