Only shop here for meat because anything else they sell that requires refrigeration is a gamble. As someone else said here the produce looks like it came by way of Chernobyl with the iceberg lettuce always being a horror standout. But even that is fine because it's visible and if it's unappealing you simply don't buy it. That goes for all the produce. But that first refrigeration case... Is it turned off when the store is closed? I am seriously asking. Because even if it's within an expiration date it can still taste off once you eat it. This has happened twice for me with the hummus, ricotta and yogurt. The second time was just this past week and I would compare how my stomach feels to the norovirus. Since I'm asking, maybe the freezer as well. Also twice, ice cream and ice cream bars were melted then refrozen which doesn't really work with dairy. Otherwise, it's not the cleanest, but the staff is nice. So even if you're a lazy shopper like me, suck it up and tough out the Market Basket. I was desperately searching for a open store on Christmas day. I forgot an important item for our Christmas dinner. I called the butchery and a man answered. He said they were closed but asked "what do you need?" I told him and he said come down and he would help me out. When I arrived at the Butchery it was completely dark but when I got to the front door I was welcomed by "Glenn". He helped me gather what I needed and when I went to check out he said "you’re all set..Merry Christmas! He gave me the groceries for free. Great throwback to a time when every town had one or two good butchers. Nice selection of cuts. They have a walk up window if you need to place a special order or get a cut trimmed up. I was making turkey chili and wanted turkey tips. They had them cut but pre-marinated. Instead, I bought a boned turkey breast and cut that up for the chili.
