I have shopped at several Brookshire Brothers in different towns I have been in, and in my past experience with Brookshire Brothers, I have really appreciated having a big chain grocery store in a small town. I like being able to see weekly ads on their website and other little things that you usually only get with big chain stores. However, this store is really lacking in one major area: quality control! Unfortunately, I have had so many negative experiences with this store that it led me to write this review. Once, my husband and I bought some pork ribs from here. When we went to smoke them, we sliced open the package and were immediately hit with the scent of spoiled meat! We took the meat back because they were pretty pricey. I have been here shopping for produce, and over several shopping trips, I have seen so much moldly produce: strawberries, cucumbers, oranges, etc. Once I bought two bags of expensive Lindt chocolates to give as gifts. Thankfully, I opened the bags to pour the individual chocolates over a gift basket. But the chocolates had obviously been melted, some chocolate had leaked out of the wrappers and rehardened, and chocolate was everywhere! Our family ended up eating the chocolate, and I bought more at a different store for the gift. Once they were having a sale on chocolate milk. I decided to pick up a half gallon as a treat for my family. But the first two containers in the refrigerator case had expired days ago and were obviously curdled beyond recognition. I have seen and tasted plenty of spoiled milk in my time, but never this bad! It was so gross. I could see the milk was spoiled from 3 feet away... why in the world did the employees not do something about it sooner? I now do most of my local shopping at the other grocery store (Thriftee Food Center) in Dayton because they always have much better looking meat and produce. I only come here when I know Thriftee doesn't have something and I need it, or when Brookshires has Blue Bell on sale, or if it is more convenient to come here and I know it is something safe to buy here like pasta or other non perishable goods. I think corporate Brookshire Brothers would be disappointed in the quality control standards utilized by this store under their name. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because a couple of their cashiers actually greet the customers instead of ignoring them while talking to the other employees like I have seen several of their...
Read moreThe store always looks clean and the deli is always great, so I stop from time to time on my way through town. A couple of days after Hurricane Beryl I stopped to grab lunch on my way through. I was so thankful they were open because many places still didn’t have electricity. The places that WERE open had horribly long lines. The sweet lady behind the deli counter was so patient with everyone, making sure we were all taken care of and happy. The chicken spaghetti that I ordered was simply fantastic, packed full of flavor, creamy, and had a little bit of kick to it. I loved it. I have to give a shout out to their Dr Pepper from the soda machine as well because you can’t find Dr Pepper like that many places these days. I will stop every single time I pass through just to grab a Dr Pepper from the deli. NOTE: The fountain soda machine is located behind the deli counter, so it’s only available when the deli is open. This is a clean store with friendly employees and really great priced deli food that tastes delicious. *The chicken pot pie is excellent as well! I haven’t had any of their desserts, but they had an apple cobbler that looked so good it made my mouth water. The fried chicken looked...
Read moreThere's an older man, speaks slow, usually is sacking or outside picking up trash. He is loud and his laugh is off the roof top, so annoying. He thinks he's funny, but I don't see any humor in his remarks at all.
A month or so ago, this same "loud" man commented as I was checking out, about how he didn't understand why they still require masks, and 2 other characters chimed in to give their 2 cents worth, the younger big guy being really rude and obnoxious. Well, here we are a month or so later and we have the worse case of Omicron virus anyone has seen. And the store must not require their staff to wear masks because non of the sackers and most checkers do not wear them. Management needs to monitor their sackers and stop the snide remarks they make about the patrons. Our grocery shopping choices are limited in Dayton, be more cordial and welcoming, train your staff on customer service skills, they obviously...
