Strack & Van Til — Local services in De Motte

I have shopped here twice since I moved both being terrible interactions with employees one at the deli who ignored taking my order for 22 min and today my encounter even worse. I wish I could give 0 stars this is by far the worst location I’ve been to not because the store itself isn’t nice but the employees that run it. Steve you’re a horrible manager how you got your job idk but you don’t deserve it and have no cutstomer relation skills. Also upon calling for the name of Steve’s general manager he hung up on me 2 times and raised his voice at me to cut me off from hearing my complaint. He was rude and he threatened to call the police for trying to find out the name of his boss to report his terrible job performance. I’ll be calling tomorrow for the GM and made a complaint to Cindy at highland corporate headquarters. Steve I hope you receive the treatment you give. I’ll be going to Merrillville and save a lot for small local needs at least they treat customers with care. Went to save a lot and not only did they have what I needed but they were polite and took 5 min to walk me to the area I needed and show me options. Steve perhaps you should be sent on a filed trip to see how other managers effectively manage asmall store. Shop at save a lot they also had fruits and veggies that didn’t look like they were molding and nasty and no out of date products...

I love that we now have a strack and van til in town! Yes, the prices are higher than other grocery stores in the immediate area, but with the price of gas now (Jul 2022), it's still cheaper to buy here than drive to the Aldi up north. Anyway, since they've changed into Stracks, they've vastly improved their selection of items, adding healthier options and improved the quality of the fruits and produce. My kids love to look at the big letters on the wall, the fish wall decor, and of course all the balloons placed throughout the store. 1 of the newer clerks is frustratingly slow so I try to avoid her when I go but overall most of the clerks are efficient. I LOVE LOVE that they always offer/sometimes don't even ask, they just do it anyway- the car service to take your groceries to your car. As a mom of 2 toddlers (3 + almost 2), this is also why I dont mind paying a little extra. It saves me so much time and energy and it's such a small gesture for them. Most of the time, they are done loading My bags in the car and I'm still just barely finished strapping the kids in the car seat....

I tried to go to self check out with my 2 year old with all lanes open. No one was using self check out with two young employees a male and female. Was stopped right before scanning and was told hold on looked at my cart and said yea that looks more then 15 items and told me I can’t use them. I had to wait in a long line with my toddler just to put my 16 items out This is disgusting and ridiculous to do to a mother and baby. Are they that lazy they didn’t want to work to let me check out my 16 items out as they continue to stand there an talk while the one register checks out there whole store. This place will never get my business again. I have never been treated so disgusting with my child before you should be disappointed in your employees if this is how they treat other mothers with...
