Uptown was my first apt. out of the dorms. I thought the pricing was decent for having all utilities included (with electricity cap of course) & being fully furnished. Boy was I horribly screwed over. The day I moved in, the sidewalks were COATED in bird poop & grackle feathers (which they cleaned up 2 wks later), the apartment was COATED in dust like setting a box onto the carpet caused a WOOSH of dust to fly up, there was a soda stain on the carpet under the living chair that was not cleaned, & my bathtub faucet was sticking out of the wall. I put in several work orders for that & it never got fixed. Our dryer screeched like a demon spawn from Hell every time we used it & it took over 8 work orders PLUS going to the office with video proof of the horrible noise for them to get it actually fixed. I had FIRE ANTS in my closet as well as one of my other roommates, our kitchen sink's gasket & the garbage disposal were broken and leaked when used, our ice maker suddenly stopped working & was POURING WATER INTO THE KITCHEN so we were without ice for 3 weeks while we waited for maintenance to fix it since "it may just need to be turned off and reset" when the whole dang thing had to end up being replaced, the A/C froze over MANY times even though we were on the bottom floor & kept the thermostat at 75. It eventually ended up leaking BADLY into the kitchen area. My roommate slipped & fell outside the bus stop because it was so badly muddy & scratched the crap out of her back. It was muddy not just from rain but the sprinklers combined with heavy traffic (obviously because its A BUS STOP) made it to where the grass just died out & it was just dangerous slippery mud. I informed the office about it & they did nothing. I even suggested they do what UNT does in high traffic bus stop areas which is put down wood chips in the area so people WOULD NOT GET HURT. Also maintenance kept saying that their keys did not work on our apartment door so they couldn't fix our issues but they're electronic locks & we never used the deadbolt except late at night. Then there's the safety issue. I chose Uptown because it was far enough away from everything that I thought it would be fine. I checked crime reports as well. (my father is a police officer who has been on the force for over 35 years okay) & it was clean. Nope. My roommate got her car broken into & they stole her GPS & broken aux cord & it was less than 2 hours since she had gotten home one night & went back to get something. Then there was the night some yayhoos were out farting around in a parking lot near building 4 where one of my friends lived & they decided it was a good idea to toy with a loaded firearm & shoot it off into the sky a few times & I HEARD the shots from my bedroom over in the far side of building 2, scaring the life out of my friend who came running to my apartment scared for her life. Never did Uptown say ANYTHING until one of my roommates called the office to ask if police had been called out or not. Nor was there an update sent out on what happened. Fastforward a bit. Late at night some jerks decided to ROB A PIZZA DELIVERY GUY AT GUN POINT around building 12. NOTHING was said until the day after & it was a paper in the door. Uptown HAS the capability to send out text messages/phone calls/emails almost instantaniously for things such as "Weenie Wednesday" & if someone lost their keys or pet. But for their safety? Nah they'd just rather inform you after the danger has passed & you didn't know you were possibly in danger. Then finally, move out day. I arrived to my apartment 6 days before the official day we HAD to move out to take all my stuff home & turn in my keys. So I formally checked out and turned in my keys. Later that week, they kept asking for rent money (we always prepaid in advance & instantly paid utility overcharges) & we kept telling them I no longer lived there (keys turned in & everything) & so after 2 "late fees" they sent a letter saying they're kicking me out for not...
Read moreIf youâre thinking about signing a lease at Uptown Apartments â DONâT. Unless you want to pay a ridiculous amount of money to live in what can only be described as a roach-infested, flood-prone dumpster fire that management could not care less about.
Letâs start with the roaches: they come free with your lease. Theyâll be your real roommates because maintenance sure wonât get rid of them. Speaking of maintenance â HA. Our AC was broken for months. Not days. Not weeks. Months. I personally called over 8 times (not counting my roommatesâ calls), and they did exactly nothing. So be prepared to sweat through your summer while your rent keeps going up.
And hereâs the part that really deserves an award: they pretend like they fix things. Theyâll smile and nod, maybe even mark the request as âcompletedâ in the system like theyâre doing something, but donât let the act fool you. That âfixâ usually means someone came in, stared at the problem, shrugged, and left â if they even show up at all. Itâs giving â¨illusion of effort⨠with zero follow-through. Honestly, Iâve had more productive conversations with my toaster.
If you love surprise bills, this is the place for you! đ They sneak in hidden fees that autopay conveniently doesnât cover â so while you think youâre paying your rent on time every month, theyâre silently stacking up extra charges behind your back. No heads-up, no email, nothing⌠until you suddenly âoweâ them almost $500.
Whatâs the point of autopay if it only pays part of what you owe? Total scammy move. Maybe try sending a quick email or, I donât know, make the autopay cover the actual balance due? Just a thought!
Save yourself the headache â double-check your account every month or be prepared for a nasty surprise. Iâd give zero stars if I could. đ
When I moved in, there was a WATER BOTTLE jammed into my bathtub plumbing like thatâs a normal fix. Spoiler: itâs not. But wait â thereâs more! Our apartment FLOODED TEN TIMES â because the sink broke, the washer broke, and the dishwasher broke. For TWO YEARS, they did absolutely nothing until they finally decided, âHey, maybe these people shouldnât have an indoor swimming pool every other week.â
They replaced the washer and dryer after two years of constant flooding â which wouldâve prevented most of the damage in the first place if theyâd done their jobs.
Then there was the fire alarm fiasco: it went off randomly and wouldnât shut up. We called the office over and over â no one picked up. We literally had to call 911 because they were too incompetent to answer the phone.
And the cherry on top? When our apartment was yet again under inches of water and I called to report it, they asked me, âIs it serious enough to send someone over?â Is that a joke? My entire apartment was an indoor lake!
So if youâre looking for: â Roaches as roommates â Broken AC all summer â DIY plumbing âfixesâ using trash â A personal indoor pool whether you want one or not â A management team that ghosts you when your life is literally underwater â The thrill of maybe needing to call 911 because they canât be bothered â And âfixesâ that somehow make things worse
âŚthen by all means, sign your life away at Uptown Apartments. Otherwise, RUN. Save yourself the money, sanity, and mildew. You couldnât pay me enough to live here again.
And donât even get me started on how they âhandleâ these disasters. Every single time something goes horribly wrong (which is always), theyâll toss you a half-baked âWeâre so sorry for the inconvenienceâ and hand you a management number that NO ONE EVER ANSWERS. Itâs basically their version of ghosting you â but with more mildew and mold. Donât fall for it â youâll be on hold forever while your apartment turns into the Titanic. ps. there was literal dog feces on my porch and i called about 6 times as well as my mom for them to clean it and they never did as well as claiming they cleaned it...
Read moreFor student apartments, I'm not going to lie its not the worst. It's still horrible for normal apartment standards though. I'm leaving 2 stars for the list of things that happened while I was here. The reason I say its not the worst is because I've heard worse about the other apartments.
In my 2 years of living here: (Year 1: Building 3 3rd floor) Dryer never dried. Called maintenance 8 times. Washer flooded. Blamed it on my roommate since she washed a sheet. A TOP SHEET. In the washer. Washer and dryer were replaced (3 months into asking, completely avoidable.) Floors began to peel up, called maintenance, they left a dumbbell on the floor for 2 weeks. Took it off, it was worse than before. Mold began to grow AC went out in April, never fixed till presumably after the end of lease (June 1st) Too close to I35 so you can hear every car, truck, honk, or squeak from every car CLEARLY 24/7. Almost no bugs outside of spiders.
(Year 2: Building 11 middle floor) Before moving in, I was told since I was a returner I could move in the 2nd. I had work training the 8th so that was great. I was then told that they made a mistake and that I would have to move in on the 12th. I called corporate and they got me another apartment, as crappy as they could, to stay in for a week in building 2. Mold covered walls, paint everywhere, absolutely horrible. We asked for 3rd floor, request got approved but later were told "sorry we forgot." When we arrived furniture was torn up, floors had chunks missing, and roaches were everywhere. Asked for roach issue to be fixed (August) has not been fixed (March). When we call them out again and again for it they say they cant do anything despite our apartment being "the cleanest apartment they have ever seen" (Roommates have OCD and compromised immune systems) Freezer leaked onto everything in the fridge. Was only fixed after the 3rd maintenance call. Seals on doors and windows are broken, so bugs always get in. MULTIPLE wasps in my bedroom. Never fixed. Toilet wobbles if anyone tries to sit. Not fixed (base is rusted through, they would need to replace it.) Showers and sinks don't drain (fixed after 6 months Water heater broken (never fixed) CONSTANT BUGS. Like every type. I have no issues with spiders but there are always at least 5 in my bathroom alone which indicates a bigger problem.
Now keep in mind that was my experience, but as with all apartments the neighbors greatly affect the experience. Our neighbors apartment is disgusting and we likely get the roaches from them, they are loud and we can hear them. The walls are thicker than other places since its an old building (2004 if I remember right), but the upstairs walking is so loud downstairs I wouldn't even take a lower floor apartment.
Overall the spacious floorplan and kitchen are nice for building 11, I didn't really like the floorplan in 3. Not sure what the names of the floorplans are but you can call and ask. The front office staff are helpful. The management is the issue. When I went to interview to be an office person they asked if I was ready to lie and scam people so there's that. Be wary, American Campus is a horrible and scammy company, but they have the best apartments for student living out here (U Centre, Uptown, and City Parc). I was ok with the treatment when in 2023 the rent was $650 per person for a 3x3, but asking almost $900 in 2025 for the same crappy apartments is a ripoff.
Also in year 1, my boyfriends washer caught fire and emergency maintenance didn't respond so we called 911. Maintenance just showed up to laugh once they saw the truck pull in. They were riding around screaming on a golf cart when we were calling by the way. I swear you cannot make...
