I wasn't going to leave a review, but the more I thought about it I feel its important to do so for others. I'm giving it a 1 star for the lack of communication this place gave me for my mother who was treated there. My mother was in an ICU in Newton Memorial for a few weeks back in Jan/Feb.. She was told by them that her next steps would be to go to Kindred for a rehabilitation to get weened off the trach tube so she could go home. When I spoke of this to them at Kindred, they rolled their eyes and said that's what they tell everyone. This is just another hospital. And that she would need further assistance in life even possibilities of nursing homes. My mother was healthy before this but dealing with bumps in the road. Because it was much further away it was hard to get there every day traveling to and from PA. Every time we would go there my mother looked distressed. Her fingernails were filthy, her hair was a matted mess and at one point looked like she had headlice. Her hair was so badly dirty it needed to be cut ( which wasn't done) Our first visit we were told she knocked out her trach tube and she had blood all over her gown. It certainly wasn't a great impression. Over the course of weeks visiting her, she significantly declined. They told us she was doing great, even "brushing her hair". Yet she developed E coli and fungus in the blood. My mother was severely depressed because she couldn't speak. In the ICU she was able to write down what she wanted, here so couldn't even hold a pen. We were at our wits end and she did not want to move forward because she felt hopeless. lack of compassion, and communication I blame for this. She decided to stop treatments because she wanted to go home, and I was able to do that for her. When she signed paperwork for no treatments, they had to nerve to come in ask her if she wanted to finished out her blood treatment she was receiving. why? She couldn't even make clear conscience decisions at this point. Yet said yes to it because they want to get what money they can out of you. After that they discharged so quickly she was on an ambulance coming home, they wrote no scripts for morphine or comfort care for when she arrived and the hospice care was furious about this. They (hospice)spent hours trying to get some type of script for her but was no successful. she was home no more than 6 hours and passed away from cardiac arrest. I don't like pointing the finger, because things happen for a reason, but I hated the lack of communication, we were always left in the dark and not knowing what to do next. Newton Memorial called me everyday, even if it was the same news. I'm upset they sent her here and lied to us. I never got a call from Kindred unless it was to approve another test being done. I would call and just get a busy signal. I couldn't go to Kindred like I did for Newton because of the distance, but every time I went no one came in to talk unless i hunted them down. I especially hated when having an end of life care conference call and the nurses and case workers were using medically dialect that we could not understand and got mad at us for asking what it all means. Check the tone of your voice when speaking to family members! We put our faith and hands into god and the care workers, and when they fail you...
Read moreThe first time my mom went to Kindred in Dover she was taken care well, she left to a nursing home on a T collar which is great because she was close to having her tracheostomy tube removed. The second time she came back and got an infection she was moved to the other side of the unit and then everything went down hill. Dr Shad and Dr. William Grella are the worse Drs. Dr Shad extremely rude and doesn’t care about their patients. Some of the staff from respiratory therapist did a great job with my mom. To make a long story short my mom almost died in Kindred she was retaining water and her CO2 was so high that made her very lethargic and they didn’t do anything because they are used to drugging patients that decanulate themselves removing the Trach. The only reason why she ended in the ER was because she was being transferred to the nursing home next door The Dwelling Place and when they assessed her they realized she was extremely sick. My mother died under Dr. Grella snd his team at St Claire’s Hospital in Dover, NJ. He not only medically neglected her care but kept her in a regular floor even though she was actively dying because he still wanted to get paid and not loose her as his patient to another ICU DR where she should of been. I told him she so many times she needed to be in ICU her blood pressure was dropping and was retaining so much fluids it started to affect her organs. When she coded the first time at 4:30 am Monday 7/21/2025 she was transferred to the ICU finally. He stopped by to see her and I told him “ I told you many times my mother needed to be in ICU” and he still said “no she didn’t”, even in her death bed!!!! He’s is a MONSTER!!! She was so swollen from retaining so much water and didn’t do anything for her!!! I told him this is fixable, this happened at Overlook Medical Hospital and other hospitals and she recovered. This man’s ego is up the roof. She passed of course because it was too late. I had a DR accepting her at Overlook Medical Hospital Center and wanted her to be transferred ASAP. It was too late!! The nurses in Kindred Hospital in Dover they don’t care. I told nurse Jasmin at Kindred she was retaining water and nothing was done. I was my mother’s biggest advocate and they all knew that. My mother is now gone because these Drs didn’t care all they want is a paycheck. Even the nurses in St Claire’s on the 4th floor didn’t care. Nobody cared that’s why she died!!! This will not stay like this, I will pursue legal action for malpractice and medical neglect!!!!! My mother is gone because of Dr.William Grella and his team as well as all the nurses that also gave up on my mother. Run away from this Dr. , another family member also died under...
Read moreI can't say enough about the staff and care my daughter has gotten at Kindred Care @ St. Clare's in Dover. I felt so at ease from the 1st day we walked into the facility. I had initially gone to Kindred to tour the facility where I met with Sharon Bready, COO who was absolutely amazing; she explained the intake process to me and was so helpful, understanding my need to get my daughter out of the horrible situation she was in at another facility. Sharon was so compassionate and worked closely with me to help get over a few administrative hurdles that was slowing the process. Within a matter of a very short time, I was able to transfer my daughter to Kindred where we were met with compassion and understanding. I felt such a relief the moment we entered the doors at Kindred and was met with warm, friendly smiles. The nursing staff/Aides are PHENOMENAL - they took such good care of my daughter with kindness, compassion and good care, always checking on her, whispering encouraging words of hope into her ears and nursing with compassion (Donna, Julianna, Karen, "Chito" R/T and so many more names I can't remember). Special shout-out to the night shift Charge Nurse who's name I can't remember that responded immediately and handled a situation with 2 staff members that my daughter had issues with; she promised she would correct the issue and she kept her promise and came through with "flying colors" - awesome management! I would be remiss if I did not mention Dr. Grella and the entire team of doctors that took such good care of my daughter ...HUGE THANK YOU! Thank you also to Beth at Dwelling Place for all of her help in orchestrating a smooth transition from Kindred to the Dwelling Place, could not have done it without YOU. And lastly, Dr. Sharman (sp??).....an Angel that was sent by on Sat after my daughter was admitted to the emergency room after she had been vomiting constantly for weeks and unable to tolerate her feeding. He walked in, took 1 look at her, consulted via phone with a family friend who is a Cardio-thorasic Surgeon and within minutes figured out the problem; my daughter's feeding has resumed, currently at 35ml after Dr Sharman's instructions were implemented and, she's been sustaining for the past 3 days - Amen! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH as I Pray your continued Strength and Protection as you continue caring for our Loved Ones🙏🏾 !! Because of your care and dedication and my Faith in God, I am confident that LaCretia will make a COMPLETE Recovery , in spite of what her situation may look like right now. #nevergiveuponGod...
