I have been going to PowerUp (Johns Creek and Duluth) for over a year now. While I totally understand the need for a late policy, my recent experience demonstrated to me how much the owner doesn’t care about her clients.
For my birthday, myself and 2 girlfriends planned to attend a Pilates class and brunch. On the way there, my friend had car trouble and I had to go pick her up on my way. We realized that this was going to make us late by 2 minutes. Knowing their late policy, we asked our friend who was already in the studio to notify the front desk of our situation, and offer to set up our reformers for us so we would not disrupt anyone when we arrived for the class. The front desk girl did not tell her we would be locked out but instead said ‘they better hurry’. Our friend later told us that the front desk girl then locked the door at 11:59 anyways.
When we arrived, there was no nearby parking. We parked in a lot down the road and RAN. When we arrived to the studio still only 2 minutes late, the door was locked. The front desk girl came outside, we explained the situation and reminded her that our friend had set up our reformers etc. The girl could not have been more condescending or rude and wouldn’t let us in. Our friend inside the studio ended up leaving the class early.
I then emailed the owner, Lori, to notify her of the situation. It’s been 5 days and she still has not had the decency to reply. Again, I understand the need for a late policy, but to ignore all of the other factors, including the fact that we are not habitually late to arrive, is unreasonable in my opinion.
Super disappointing experience. There are many other Pilates / fitness studios in the area that I attend that would never treat their...
Read moreStarting Pilates was something I always wanted to do but felt so intimidated by it. I’m so grateful I set those fears aside and signed up for PowerUp in Duluth. From day 1 Lori and Kimberly were so kind and encouraging. I did the free intro class with Lori and she made me feel comfortable right from the start.
I work (literally) right next door, so the location was one of the big reasons I joined - convenience. But I’ve stayed and been committed because of the whole team. All the instructors have been incredible in my journey to grow and learn, all while feeling the burn. Randi on Tuesdays has been AMAZING! Her classes are both challenging and rewarding and I find myself pushing for more. I’ve never been a big fan of working out Saturdays, but I haven’t missed a Saturday with Amy! It’s the perfect amount of movement and flow for you to feel good about getting a workout in but also not feeling like you can’t move the rest of the day. Genuinely, everyone has their own style that keeps you coming back for more! My body feels so good after each class and I can feel a difference in my mobility already - and this is coming from someone who has had a spinal injury!
Apart from the Duluth PUP team, I’ve already made connections with new-to-pilates classmates and we have held each other accountable and encouraged each other in this new journey! I feel like I’ve built a little Pilates family and I love it! This is a great location to feel comfortable and safe while challenging yourself to do something new! Highly recommend you start your Pilates journey - this is the best...
Read morePowerUp Pilates Duluth has been such a new and incredible experience for me. I joined their unlimited founding membership and I have zero regrets! I have been ~10x in the last 2-3 weeks and can already tell the difference in my posture (I sit in front of a computer all day for work). I am so much more aware of my body and I genuinely feel much better about myself in these short few weeks.
I was a bit nervous going in and felt awkward my first few classes, but all of the instructors and the community have been extremely welcoming. Any instructor's class that I've been to more than once, they've already remembered my name. During classes, they take the time to correct my form in such a quick and gentle way that I don't feel bad about myself (which was my biggest worry before I started going).
Since this is a new studio, there's a ton of people trying pilates for the first time so it's fun that we're all awkwardly learning together! I've made a few friends along the way and we try to match our classes up as much as possible.
If you're thinking about joining, take one of the free intro sessions and just go to a class after!
I'm so proud of myself for making the commitment and genuinely happy that I've found my reformer pilates home and community at PowerUp...
