Since all of the reviews on here are from women, I wanted to give a guy's perspective. I decided to learn how to sew after getting fed up with seeing things I could repair or upgrade with sewing (broken loops on curtains, hemming kids pants, tailoring my shirts to fit me better, making custom gear bags) but not knowing how to even begin using a machine. My wife is not the crafty type so I took up the challenge.
I booked a single one on one class here with Jamie back in 2019. She was an excellent teacher, and taught me so much in that one class. I followed all her recommendations on tools to get, and I even bought the machine she taught me on as she recommended it for beginners. Unfortunatly we were moving out of the area shortly after the class so I was never able to take another lesson with her. Luckily, she was such an excellent teacher it didn't matter, and that one class was all I needed.
Since then I have done all the projects I've wanted and have even begun to draft my own custom clothes patterns for me and my family. My skills have expanded greatly, all just based on her initial class. I've never had another sewing class with anyone, only researching on youtube when I had a specific issue. Her amazing teaching skills gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed, and has opened an entire world of creation to me. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from her. To all the guys out there possibly thinking of learning this powerful skill, I highly recommend...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbout a month ago I was telling my husband how I really needed to get back into sewing and relearn. I don't really love to be around large groups so places that typically hold classes (like JoAnns/Michael's) was out.
Two days later, in Historic Norcross, we walked by Gingham & Eyelet. A woman-owned small business. I took a postcard and looked up the website asap. The next day, I was in a Learn To Sew Class (that's 4 weeks long/once a week) with Jaime, the owner, and about 5 others.
Jaime is so kind, funny, & knowledgeable. We made pillow covers the first class and I was so nervous because it seemed hard. But OMG it was so simple after she went through the steps, and even showed us how to set the machines up.
This past week we made little zippered bags. I CAN SEW A ZIPPER?! And next week Jaime is graciously showing me how to use my tricky sewing machine and we're making small bags.
I am so excited that this is business is close by. She also offers one on one classes (and has a playroom if you have kids you need to bring!), classes for children, and hosts parties.
I am so excited to continue my classes here and attend workshops in the future. I just had to share with you guys this amazing place (located on Jones St kinda next to the fox mural šš¦)!!
Next week I'm taking my tricky machine in and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNew to sewing. Bought a used sewing machine off Facebook Marketplace like a total bossāexcept I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Within a week, I was questioning every major life decision Iād ever made, including but not limited to the machine, adulthood, and why thread has a mind of its own.
So I did what any desperate newbie would do: found a local sewing class. There was one at 8 AM⦠I signed up for the 10 AM slot. (Baby steps.)
The class? Amazing. We made a key fob. A whole key fob! I nearly cried tears of joy.
I got home, inspired and slightly terrified to face my machine again. Thatās when I discovered something life-changing: my machine has automatic threading. AUTOMATIC. THREADING. I didnāt even know what the hook was for before this. But now? I can thread that bad boy, use the attachments, and not break into a cold sweat.
I feel like Iāve climbed Mount Everest in a thimble. Next up: finding a pattern and starting my next big sewing adventure.
Highly recommend the...
