Pinland has been the best duckpin bowling centers in Maryland for many reasons. 1. Its not easy to keep a bowling center looking as good as it does, while keeping the 50's and '60's vibe. I personally know Bob and his son Wayne and it makes me so proud just to even know them. Us 3, Calvin Jones and Don Dove. About 4 years ago, I heard through the grape vine that Steve Litrenta had already made the deal to sell the whole strip block and the buyer was going to knock down the whole strip including, which just made me irate. The buyer didn't even want to save the Lanes or the machines. He was going to scrap sll of it!!! So, I asked an aquatzncd , first and to stand with me and if not buy it, we could at least hold off the vultures until we met the perfect family, the Lipkas. I personally know Bob and I know he is a person that loves bowling, he also loves to bowl. ANYWAY, I just wanted to thank Bob and his son Wayne for taking on this huge task. All us duckpiners can hope is that this situation inspires other investors to do similar things. I say that because when I still bowled on the Pro Tour regularly, I remember Riviera getting sold to the highest bidder, not caring what the plans are for the building and MORE IMPORTANTLY, the Lanes and the original pinsetter machines. When Mike Davidson sold Riviera, he didn't even inquire what the space was being used for. About a week later 32 perfect Lanes were chopped like firewood and every original 1954 machine was hammered to death and ,SET ON FIRE. WE as a duckpin community have to keep our eyes out for any other bowling alley for sale, we must step in and if necessary pull or Duckpin Bowling Club together if need be, we can pull our money together with a big enough club and I put up some of money up. On a personal note, I remember riding by Riviers and I actually cried when I saw the poles. Not long ago, I had business in Catonsville and I couldn't believe my eyes, Rolling Rolling and Westview. I have NO IDEA why Westview was closed. Other than - Southwest, Westview, no other Westside made as much money. The ONLY Idea I ever had for this is AMF is/was trying to remove the game of Duckpins from the...
Read moreThey didn't honor my reservation. I called to reserve two lanes for a party a few days before. When I showed up, the excuse was "we had a fund raiser that was bigger than expected" which I interpreted as "we gave away your lane". I want to be understanding, because it's a fundraiser, but I showed up with 7 people and we all drove over 30 minutes. If we had been given warning, we wouldn't have been stranded on a Saturday night. They were sort of apologetic and offered us some coupons, but really, it wasn't good enough. We were literally a party with nowhere to go. I wouldn't trust this place for an event or at least call many times to confirm your event. They don't seem to really...
Read moreVery friendly, "throw back" type of place. Some features are out-dated: need a new kitchen/food offering; the lane equip and score board are old school. However, these things are part of the charm. Weekend "Rock & Bowl" are reasonably priced, overall pretty inexpensive. My only complaint from our last visit is that someone let a 90yr old cowboy control the playlist for a lil too long, but it didn't harm our experience. We've already have recommended Pinland to some others, and will definately return...
