I used to be a die hard K40 fan, that is until the mount holding the radar melted and fell apart, which resulted in my radar falling down onto the dash. Mind you, this is a mount, not radar detector. I called K40 the same day, sent them numerous pictures, and Patrick "acted" like he was my best friend and sympathetic, but then quickly said that they could ship me one for $22.95. And just yesterday on the phone Patrick told me that after seeing the pictures, he felt that K40 should be taking care of me. They're not. They offered me the same mount, but I turned it down because I don't want anotherf failing K40 piece. Patrick directed me to a website called BlendMount, which sells quality radar mounts. Why would you direct me to a competitors website to purchase a quality product to replace their inferior one? Because they know that their mounts are no good. So i asked if K40 really wants to take care of me as he suggested, then how about K40 meeting me halfway on the superior mount. Nooooo. He again said that they would send me another inferior K40 mount for free. I said no, I don't want another inferior K40 mount that's just going to fail. So don't be surprised if you come out one day and your $600 K40 Platinum 100 is lying in the floor or down on your dash. If Patrick knows that the BlendMounts are better, then why doesn't K40 have a better mount for their products? Do I recommend K40? No! Because they verbally told me that another manufacturer makes a better product. Once this radar detector dies, which I'm sure it will. Oh, but they'll have an excuse as to why it probably failed or died. And to think of the amount of money that I paid them for two (2) of these radar detectors. I'll go back to an Escort. Goodbye K40, hello Escort. I researched the 10 best radar detectors and K40 was not mentioned at all. The three top radar detectors out are Escort, Uniden, and Cobra. See for yourself. I bought my first K40 over 30 years ago and it worked awesome. I now have one in each of my vehicles over the last 4 years and they work great. I purchased my last custom install from Don McCallister out of the Orlando area. He actually came out to my house and did the installation which is almost unheard of these days. Recently I experienced an issue and contacted K40 about the issue. They provided me Dons number as they had records that he was who I purchased the unit from. I contacted Don and he made the drive out to my location the following day. He was able to diagnose and fix the issue for the most part. I did need a new laser part which was ordered. Don returned to my home about a week later and installed the part. Don did an outstanding job and responded immediately. I truly will always stay with a K40 because of his outstanding customer service. I’m a “Raving Fan”. Great customer service is not very common these days and he provided outstanding service. One of our local dealers was so busy indicated it would take 5 weeks before they could even diagnose the issue. Don came out the next day. He had to drive from Orlando to Ocala which is over an hour away. K40 staff has also been very helpful anytime I call.
