Can I give it 10 stars? I will confess…I CHANGED A FLIGHT SO I COULD GO TO V&V. And I don’t feel one bit embarrassed! Instead of heading straight from RDU to a family wedding, I changed my flight to arrive a day earlier for the sole purpose of making a V&V detour with my sister-in-law Allison. I’d only been to the store in person one other time, but that visit leveled up my wardrobe so significantly that I wanted to keep the transformation going.
And (to be honest) I was craving another round of that super-fun, girly, affirming, experience of playing with clothes—one that left me feeling confident, attractive, and fabulous. I wanted to try on more gorgeous outfits that I’d never seen anywhere else. I wanted to just hang out with Stephanie and Nadira—who are simultaneously both the coolest and the most real people ever. For someone like me who is slightly fashion-insecure, a V&V visit is the equivalent of a style trust fall in the best possible way, where your besties always lift you up and will never let you hit the ground.
I walked out with a selection of comfortable, beautiful clothes that I know look great on me and that I'm confident will work for any sort of occasion, gently moving both my closet and my spirit out of the depressing, work-from-home, jeans and Uggs rut into Fabulous territory.
Was it worth changing my flight? Abso-freaking-lutely. And I’ll...
Read moreVert & Vogue is one of our favorite places in Durham. Ryan and Nadira are the wonderful owners. There is a great selection of clothing and accessories, and some of the friendliest sales associates you'll meet. My husband has been choosing unique locally made jewelry for me here for several years now - my Ashley Brodie collection is the jewelry I wear almost everyday! I also love the shoes - Cydwoq and Coclico are two brands I really like. I wasn't a shoe person until I discovered these! I was reading the wonderful book "Lessons from Madame Chic" by Jennifer Scott. She suggests the concept of a "capsule wardrobe" - choosing about 10 quality pieces as the basis for your wardrobe. This is a GREAT way to think about clothing purchases - choosing few high quality pieces is best for the environment, for the people who make our products, and to refine our own sense of style. V&V would be a great place to start building a capsule wardrobe. If you care about quality merchandise, goods with a story behind them, supporting the local economy, and items that are built to last - this boutique is for you. Stop by and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff, and gorgeous goods. You won't be...
Read moreI was never inclined to believe that a clothing store could be a place I would want to return even when I didn't need clothes. But Vert & Vogue is truly something special. All of the staff have impeccable taste, intelligence, good humor, and a light sales touch. (By "light" I mean that one feels attended to and supported rather than badgered.) They have clearly created an atmosphere to inspire customer loyalty. It is impossible to be in the store and feel anything but elated. I think the air vents pipe in nitrous oxide. The clothes I leave with receive compliments from strangers, are easy to care for, and feel as comfortable as pajamas. (While they sell clothes from several designers, the Vert & Vogue brand shirts are my favorite brand.) Thank you, Nadira and Ryan, for your amazing creation that enriches Durham!
[UPDATE] One more observation after a few years of V&V clothes: They are excellent for travel. Clothing made this well is durable but lightweight, perfect for layering, and easy to hand wash and drip dry during a long trip. And Nadira and Ryan's good taste assures that you will not stick out as an American tourist...
