This place is amazing. We went back in June for my boyfriend's birthday, and then for my birthday. Both trips were last minute/same-day bookings.
They had some room troubles, but this was NOT an issue last time we went - so it's not a common thing for them. Even with housekeeping issues, switching guests around, and dealing with 3rd party bookings, they were AMAZING. They switched us around and we ended up with a handicap room - which in the end wasn't much different besides the shower. The front desk staff are genuinely kind people who really make you feel welcome. Kristina, especially, is a charm.
The art is amazing. I was pleased to immediately see a couple new pieces. Some were the same - but some had rotated. In the lobby, back left corner, there's a piece with a woman in a library - and it's basically like watching her live. (You've got to see what I'm talking about to understand.
The bank vault downstairs is LOVELY. It takes about 1 hour to walk quickly around all the galleries; but if you take your time and really pay attention to them it could be a 3-5 hour exploration. There's also couches & tables in the bank vault; so you can pretty much just hang out in private if you want to - outside of your room. The concept of the bank vault & the bank vault's floor is actually very interesting. :) I didn't notice the meaning until the 2nd time!
The first visit we only stayed a night, so we got a Deluxe King & mostly spent our time outside of the room roaming around. This time we stayed for 2 nights & got a Suite. We weren't able to score a terrace suite or a 21c suite; maybe one day we'll catch it when it's available!
The suite was extremely beautiful. Like I said, there was an issue with the AC in the first suite, so I don't know if the handicap accessible was different or a completely different type of suite. If there's an (x) beside something, it means it was only in the room we stayed in which was ADA -
-Upon walking in there was a sofa & table (x), when you looked to the left and walked further in there was a living area with a large tv, HUGE windows, a larger sofa, 2 chairs, and a coffee bar (I LOVE their coffee bar set ups!) with a wine/drink cooler below it. -Entering the bedroom, the closet & dresser were inside a separate changing area(x), a 2nd thermostat (x), an extremely comfy bed with 2 side tables, another large tv, and mirrors next to the bed. -Entering the bathroom, there was constant warmth in the bathroom from a heater near the wall(x), a very large area with a chair(x), a HUGE vanity mirror, a beautiful shower, and literally just all around an amazing bathroom. *The LITTLE things that matter: **Their soap is amazing! The shampoo, bodywash, and conditioner all have different scents but are amazing. They provide full size bottles. **They provide 2 robes which are also for sale downstairs. **There's an extra blanket. **They provide coffee cups, espresso glasses, and mugs as well as 3 different types of coffee. **A hair dryer, iron, ironing board, and 2 safes are in the room. **They provide free dental kits if needed, you just have to call.
As far as room service goes, it's great. Almost anything you need can be brought up to you! They are NOT stingy at all on extra towels, blankets, coffee, waters, etc.
The restaurant items at first glance may be a little overwhelming, but it's good to know you can get items separately if you'd like - and there's something you want that they can make - they will! The woman (I believe, host) at the restaurant is extremely sweet and remembered us from last time. Her enthusiasm is AMAZING. The chef is also great; he had no issues providing things that could be made separately and ringing them in so we could get just what we wanted - rather than whole meals we may not eat - and his recommendations were A+
**The gallery is open to the public for free - which is an amazing thing! A lot of places cost money or are extremely private nowadays. So even if you don't spend the night, it's worth a...
Read morePros-- -We had somewhere to stay for our wedding night. -The restaurant was nice, food was good and bar staff was friendly. -MOST of the staff was friendly and helpful. Everyone we encountered Sat-Mon was nice and very helpful. -The kitchen staff was able to put our cooler of wedding food in the restaurants' walk in freezer (more details later.) -The shower was spacious and nice. -The spa was a dream.
Cons- -The room would not stay consistently cold and we couldn't sleep throughout the night because of this. -The toilet seat lid fell off the toilet the first time we lifted it to use; it was just resting there. -The "mini fridge" was only a mini bar fridge and we weren't able to keep our wedding food with us so we could eat that throughout our stay. (Thanks again to the kitchen staff for keeping it cool and safe though, much appreciated.) -"Room service" is only available when the restaurant is open. Seems fine, but that means no midnight snacks. The hours for the restaurant seem to be set up in a split shift style. -The lobby is so small you can't have more than 5 guest down there without bumping into each other. We actually ran into another bride and groom while we were trying to check in. -Parking was a nightmare. We arrived Friday night after our wedding and the 3 spots at the front of the hotel for valet/loading were occupied the entire time so we couldn't unload at the door. It's in the middle of a downtown touristy spot so on a busy Friday night all parking is taken up. We had to park in a parking deck across the street that belonged to another hotel. This meant that once we did get in our rooms we had to change out of our wedding attire and make 2 trips across the street in the parking deck to get our stuff so nothing was left vulnerable in the car in a parking deck. -Friday, the day of our wedding and check in, was an absolute nightmare. My mother made the reservation and the day of had a wedding guest that wanted to use his card to pay for our stay as a gift. Great right? However my mother ended up spending the entire afternoon back and forth on the phone with the hotel to get that sorted out. She wasn't "present" most of the day dealing with this. For check in, when we finally get parked and walk in to check in, we were downstairs in our wedding attire for over 30 minutes because the receptionist couldn't figure it out. We gave her every possible name it could be under (it was under the grooms name) and she could not find our reservation at all. I called everyone I knew that was involved in making the reservation and no one could think of any other reason it wouldn't work. After half an hour waiting in the lobby with guest from another wedding going by, she calls the person that was on shift before her, the one that had settled the reservation with my mom. They IMMEDIATELY tell her to push us through that we were already in the system, blah blah blah. We THINK what happened was she was only searching upcoming reservations, and not current guest or guest that had been pre-checked in like we were. (We explained at the beginning that we should have already been checked in before our arrival.) It still didn't make sense on why the grooms name wasn't showing up in the entire system she was looking up though. We were ready to just drive back home before she made the call. It was incredibly frustrating that the lack of communication between the two caused such a disorganized mess.
Overall, I'm thankful that we had people that cared about us enough to fund our wedding night/weekend stay, but this place doesn't seem to be worth 4 stars to be honest. I've stayed at nicer 3 star hotels with a much better experience. The first impression really took a drag...
Read moreI work close by the C21 Hotel and occasionally use the restroom there as I wait for the doors to my job to open. I've taken many tours and pictures throughout the year's, and was even a guest once (despite the fact that I couldn't afford it ) for one night. Because I believed in the magic of Centry 21/ C21 Art Museum & Hotel since it's arrival to my city. After arriving on an electric scooter at 6:58 pm. Unfortunately, after arriving on an electric scooter this morning I was discriminated against by the Doorman / Security personnel, at C 21, who denied me the ability to use the restroom in this public establishment ( which is open 24 hours ) without reason.
When I asked him, " Why am I not able to use the bathroom? "he told me because I'm trash and blocked the entrance. As if I was coming to Rob the place. I asked him to allow me to speak with his supervisor or someone currently in charge of him, and he told me, "No." I then asked if he was aware that he was refusing to complete a procedure of the hotel's staff policy? And tarnishing the Core Values & Mission Statement of the corporation?
He told me he didn't care.
I asked his name and refused to tell me. Stating, he doesn't have to tell me his name. I then asked for his supervisors name, and he told me to go away as if he was in complete disgust, then locked the door. 2 different women arrived periodically, who apparently works there as well. Both stood in silence as this went on. I asked to speak with someone or give the information to file a formal complaint, but I was ignored.
3 ( D.P.O. ) Durham Police Officer's; employed by the city of Durham ( D.P.D. ), drove by the hotel in 3 separate City of Durham Police vehicles following one another. behind eat a very moderate speed for me to be heard and seen by them ( emergency law enforcement ) as I yelled out to them & waved my hands in distress. They ignored me and kept going to the light in the direction of The Farmers Market on Foster St. I said, to myself; "Now I know that I wasn't just ignored and refused emergency assistance.
As I jogged to catch up to them, due to them being caught by the light. I began yelling help❗️❗️❗️
Repeatedly.
But they quickly pulled off after the stoplight quickly changed, as I was just getting to the last Police cruiser.
Due to me running in an effort to catch D.P.D., the pressure of having to use the bathroom escaped, and I urinated on myself as I walked back to
I feel so violated, degraded, embarrassed, and ashamed...
My Civil Liberties and Civil Rights as a person, a human being; was told I couldn't enter a public establishment because I'm trash. I understand that you are attempting to recover from the smear your staff has created, yet it was 2 minutes to 7 pm. According to my Google Maps data.
All in all.... Your staff was not only unprofessional. It was completely unnecessary for him to speak or treat me in the in humane manner he chose to regard me in.
3 people walked in as I was approaching the door, and they were not stopped or treated this way. He never asked if I was a guest. I could have been arriving to catch up with those who had just entered your establishment.
Your staff was out of line, and no one has reached me in regards to this despite my calls . Yet you choose to respond to me here on this platform while trying to silence the facts of the things that shouldn't have happened by focusing on my request to use the restroom and your policy regarding that.
Please, make it make sense?
I am ready...
