Brought the family to watch Cosmic Baseball tonight - Durham Bulls against the Richmond Chilli Peppers. We had a BLAST!! The blacklight set up they had was so ridiculously easy, I hope and pray more local 2A-3A teams will start doing it too! The players still played a skilled game was easing up and having more fun with it. The kids AND the adults were dancing and having a great time. I haven't heard so much laughter, crowd participation, and excitement at a local ballgame in years!!! It was a family-friendly night that allowed all of us to kick back and have fun with it! No fighting from a single person, no overly drunk people, not a single rude person, and our neighbors sitting all around us were nice, respectful and funny. Both teams constantly threw out sighed balls into the crowd adding another layer of excitement. Seeing young boys jumping feverishly trying to be notices so they get the ball... was reminiscent of easier times before our political divisions in our country. Baseball is America's past time; we acted as one audience, one America tonight
We drove 3 hours just to attend the game, but it was well worth it. I can't wait to go to another Cosmic baseball game!! It's almost 3am but I'm still energized from the game! So...
Read moreIf you visit Durham, ya gotta visit ATC (American Tobacco Campus). Ya just gotta! It’s a rustic wonderland filled with vistas, great food, and lots of places to take a beat. The area is well kept & at night there are security guards making their rounds. It’s also one of those places that can feel a bit different depending on what time of year you visit so why not visit multiple times?
Summertime: The hustle and bustle in ATC after a Bulls game feels a little bit like being in a college town. Mellow Mushroom is packed and if you’re out late enough you’ll get to hear (and maybe see) some fireworks from the baseball stadium.
Fall: Personally, my favorite time to stroll through campus is during the fall. The crisp air + the sound of the gentle waterfalls is really refreshing.
Winter: Don’t miss the lighting of the Lucky Strike water tower during the holiday season. It’s a whole event and a whole vibe. Also the winter is my favorite time to visit the Durham Night Market (held at ATC) where local artisans and vendors sell all kinds of goodies.
Spring: They start to turn the waterfalls back on when nature comes back to life. ATC is a great place to soak up some sun after the cold, dark winter. Pop a squat and listen to some birds...
Read moreThe "American Tobacco Campus" is one of the cooler downtown areas I have visited over the years.
This is an old "Lucky Strike" cigarette factory and still has both the water tower and smoke stack adorned with their iconic logo. Even if you have never smoked or if you are a current smoker we all know who "Lucky Strike" is.
This area of downtown is beside the Durham Bull's new stadium. There is a movie named, "Bull Durham" which was filmed in Durham starring Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. Worth seeing...
Anyway, the campus has a nice man made "river" using blocks of concrete and a unique lighting scheme. There are restaurants from college type bar spots to high end restaurants. A theater is on site as well.
Plenty of rocking chairs, benches, tables, etc. Great for kids and adults alike.
An absolute MUST SEE if you go to Durham. Special thanks to my old friend for showing me around, she'll know who she is,...
