For context, I’m from the Chicago area and bowled casually for years before moving to Boston 8 years ago. Ten-pin bowling isn’t as prevalent in Boston, and getting to a pro shop requires a decent drive. As a result, when my I saw that Storm Wipeout cracked in half, I didn’t have an easy opportunity to replace it.
I visited Mark at Stardust Bowl in Dyer while visiting family. Given my aforementioned predicament, I finally decided to get a ball while home and surrounded by several bowling alleys. When I arrived, there was a wait, but it was great seeing other customers ahead of me and behind me chatting with Mark and getting a sense that he’s a respected and knowledgeable PSO. This is the kind of care and customer service that makes the wait—and getting the full experience in person—worthwhile.
Given I was in town only 12 days, I needed to get a new ball with enough time to throw a few frames (and make any needed adjustments) before I headed back East. Mark found me something comparable to my old ball (Motiv Max Thrill) for a great price and had it ready with time to spare. He takes the time to get your measurements, draws them on ball, (so he's not doing by memory), he's patient with you, makes suggestions and doesn't rush you, no matter how many other customers are waiting.
