I called on the morning of December 23 for an appointment for my brother who is a resident of a nearby assisted living facility. I was told by the person who answered the phone “I have no appointments till the end of the day” I asked if anyone else had anything. For which he responded “I’m not going to walk around and ask everyone”. I asked if there was a book to schedule. He said no. Just walk in .So we walked in at one. I know it’s busy and a holiday so waiting was not a problem. The person said “we will get to you as soon as possible.” Again, I know it’s a holiday. We waited and waited on the broken down couch. I could tell no one had any intention of waiting on him. I have brought him there before and all the barbers were very kind, courteous and professional. This group ( they were not the same) was different. I think they missed your class on senior citizens. It’s a shame because I tip very well and always want to support your establishment. Some of these barbers have had a rough upbringing and you give them a chance of a lifetime. Merry Christmas. Now he gets to go celebrate with no haircut or shave. I walked into MLB looking like Carrot Top on a bad day... no matter where I turned prior, all they did was run my hair with a lawnmower; making me look like a total dweeb. I walk into MLB in East Haven and I meet one of the coolest, freshest, most down to earth guys you can ever meet! That man was my barber and friend, Giovanni Rivera. G is the most welcoming guy, you can text him whenever you want without feeling weird. He's the type of guy you can turn to for help too! If you want a free therapy session but also want to walk out looking as handsome as Danny Zucko from Grease, he's your man. Not only does he clean your top up like he's the real Paul Mitchell, but he also cleans up your facial hair as well. I AM NOT PLAYING WHEN I TELL YOU: This man had my girl drooling over how icy I looked. I hit up the Branford Fest that same day he cut my hair and I swear to God I felt like a celebrity. The man does magic. I feel as if I should owe him over $100 just to have his hands near my hair let alone cut it. I STRONGLY recommend seeing him if you happen to stop in. I have been bringing my two sons to Mikey for over five years . I have always been on time and never cancelled any appointments, while he has cancelled on me last minute multiple times . So last minute that I have actually been sitting in his shop. He’s been late numerous times. Despite this I continued to book with him and tip him. Very well. My son was recently booked with him . He had to stay after school to make up a test and wouldn’t be able to make his appointment on time , the first time in five years. I immediately contacted Mikey asking for a different time OR day. He insisted on charging me a cancellation penalty and was completely inflexible and rude. When I complained I was told to find a new barber. Well I thank you for your advice! I have in fact found a wonderful new, talented and professional barber! I have zero tolerance for unprofessional behavior when it comes to paying for services rendered. I understand that MLA is a teaching academy and I strongly suggest that Mikey take or repeat course 101.
