WeHOPE — Local services in East Palo Alto

I am seeking clarification on the actions "We Hope" intends to take regarding the recent incident in Half Moon Bay, where a security officer at the shelter severely assaulted an elderly man, known to be a long-term resident of the area and struggling with alcoholism. This man is currently in the hospital, in a coma, and on life support. The security officer involved is now incarcerated, raising concerns about the kind of behavior exhibited by those employed at the shelter.

My understanding is that the hiring practices may involve bringing in individuals with criminal backgrounds, often without thorough background checks or screening. I would also like to know what measures are being put in place to assist the current residents of the shelter, many of whom have been waiting for support or a transition into stable housing. The issuance of 90-day termination notices does not seem to be a viable solution.

If your organization genuinely upholds the values you claim, why are the residents experiencing such poor treatment? They have been denied access to facilities to warm their meals, cut off from counseling services provided by your program, and prohibited from meeting in community rooms for Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. Following the violent incident involving the elderly man, the residents are living in fear for their safety and have faced threats from the staff themselves.

I got no hope at this place and no support from the staff. Obviously I can't stay in normal shelters because I want to do something with my life other sleep and eat there. I am rebuilding my life one step at a time but when I go to seek help at these shelters such as wehope project and others that make up things as they go and do not follow their own policies but give me no respect but orders and treat me like I am in a WWll concentration camps. The jury is still out on we hope. When I arrive there it was very difficult to see where they were and the little strip of offices there because there was nothing else outside that said we hope on it. I found out that it was inside of life moves. My case manager gave me her card and I had occasion to try to call her the very next day only to find out that her voicemail was full and I could not leave a message. This made me suspicious, in that there was no signage outside saying that we hope was there and the fact that my case manager apparently had a brand new phone that she didn't set up a voicemail on or it was full so that tells me that she never answers her phone or something.
