Bay Area Eats | $15 Per Person Mexican Spot with Unbeatable Beef Stew

Bay Area Eats | $15 Per Person Mexican Spot with Unbeatable Beef Stew

This was the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. Much better than the typical "Feder"-whatever places scattered throughout the Southwest. The waiter brought us chips and homemade salsa immediately after being seated. Since she started by asking us "for here or to go" in Spanish, we just continued our ordering/paying process in that language because I take it that the locals are mostly Hispanic. In any case, the prices were quite reasonable (especially the birria pizza, giant for $21), and the food was prepared with a certain care that you just don't get at most hole-in-the-wall restaurants. The super tacos were very well assembled with sliced avocado on top. The birria pizza was nicely garnished with radishes, cilantro, and onion, AND the consome was skimmed, so it didn't have a horrible layer of grease on top! I also really enjoyed the salsa habanero and salsa cremosa. Finally, the bathroom was nice and clean (another sign that the owner cares). The only critique I would leave is to turn down the music volume a little. My only regret is not getting any of the Michoacan specialties—well, that's something to come back for.

Very interesting place, I would say very Mexican, but don’t quote me on that, because never been in Mexico. We got chips and salsa for free as a starter. We asked also for water. We ordered this new dish with instant noodles, which can come in different spice levels, but it was a bit too salty and sour for our taste. It came with 2 side quesadillas. For the steak, it was quite good, we got a fresh corn bread. And you can ask for souses, there are 4 different ones and the green was really good, very lime like:) we also got Shrimp tortillas, they were delicious!

My family came into the establishment after a Stanford football game . It was extremely loud so we couldn’t enjoy any conversation because the music was so loud . The food … We are a Latino family and the rice and beans in my opinion would be a 4 out of 10. The chips were stale. But the worst part is that 15 mins after leaving I called about a large portable charger I left on the table and they said they did not see it. They insisted I look in my car and check with the party I was with which was all family . I returned to the restaurant unannounced hoping they would give me my charger back . The people that were there when we were dinning were still present and I asked them as well. No one saw anyone at the table but the waitress that we paid and cleaned the table . It’s sad that it was such a crappy experience for my family that will be in town during the football season . I will make sure to let my Stanford football family know not to dine here . They said they would pull the video to see who took the charger but I never heard back . I will not return somewhere where I do...

It was 4 of us and we were there for 1hr 45mins. There were 2 servers. The only other ppl inside was a table with 2 men & one looked like he was staff and the other drinking beer qas maybe a friend or known acquaintance or frequent customer, whatever there were 2 guys at a table over from us also dining. Then there was a lady at the table by the register with food in front of her but also rolling utensils in napkins. So even with all this, none of that bothers me or has anything to do with our experience. It took almost 48mins for our food to come out from when we ordered it. The order was 2 sopes, 1 shrimp tostada, a carne asada quesadilla, & enchiladas michoacanos. Not sure if the cook was on break or out or what but that's an insane time. Oh also did not see anywhere in plain site that it was cash only or venmo. No cards at all. So yeah just...
