I've lived in these apartments for 3 and a half years now, and I am not going to renew my lease or refer anyone to live here. Here are my reasons for 1 star.
-When I first moved in, I was trying to get my cable and internet set up. I am in the military and live away from my family. Xfinity was not able to set up my services because a wire was bad and wouldn't let the signal through. This bad cable went through multiple apartment's closets. For a month and a half I was trying to schedule between Xfinity and the Maintenance Superintendent to get this done. I could barely keep in contact with my family for a month and a half because Maintenance could not get over to assist the Xfinity service rep within their 2 hour window.
-Xfinity is the only service provider available for this complex, and that company is awful for so many reasons. I have no choice in switching to another company.
-These are aging apartments and they aren't getting any nicer, but yet the rent goes up $100/month every year.
-My refrigerator broke down after a year of living in my apartment and I called maintenance saying I needed a new fridge. While I was at work, they came in and left a note saying they reset something in the fridge to make it work again. It did not fix the problem. I really had to call twice to get a new refrigerator, and after not having a fridge for THREE DAYS, and throwing away all the groceries that had gone bad, you think they asked me if I needed to be reimbursed? Of course not.
-The air conditioning and heat is so loud, I have to raise the volume of the TV to levels as if I was watching the Super Bowl and then lower it back down again.
-There is almost no counter space in the kitchen.
-I am a shift worker, sometimes I work night shift. You think they would tell the residents when they're going to be tearing up the parking lots or working in an apartment next to yours? Nope.
-Speaking of working on apartments next to yours, there was a fire in an apartment upstairs from me that I never knew about until my downstairs neighbor told me about it.. Really??
-Speaking of upstairs and downstairs neighbors, you can hear every foot step of the people that live above you. I can even hear my upstairs neighbor snoring at night.
-I always pay my rent by direct deposit. For a few months last year, direct deposit wasn't working for some reason. They changed companies or something. I got charged late fees all those months. I never got a notice at my door step saying 'You are about to be late on your monthly rent'. No, why would I? They would lose out on money if they did that. They know I'm military! They know I am paid regularly and well enough to pay my rent.
This has been my experience at Sherwood Village Apartments. The final straw that led to me leaving this review after 3 and a half years was those maintenance workers when I am trying to sleep. Had I known this was going to be happening today, I would have asked a friend to sleep at their house. That is simple, blatant disregard for your tenants, their comfort and their safety. Being exhausted is dangerous in my line of work, not to mention driving at night this time of year when deer are...
Read moreCurrent Resident. Renting 1BR 1BA first floor unit with washer dryer. Amenities included for price The basics of water, trash, snow, sewer. For the area the rental units are fair to good in my opinion. Could use some updated cabinet layout (corner sink right next to dishwasher, unable to rinse dishes and load dishwasher at same time. Also barely have enough storage for kitchen items and have to designate two cabinets for pantry since is no pantry cabinet) , needs updated appliance (still have a turn dial operated dishwasher). Other appliances not updated since 1996-2000, water heater and HVAC both have install dates written in marker on side of units. So tells me property's appliance update schedule is non existent tho I haven't asked (will be before renewing for year). Parking is horrible, and to get parking near unit asking pay a up-charge for designated parking spot. Also up-charge for access to pool every year easily could be figured into rent especial since rent went up after going month to month on lease. First time renting in NJ where rent has gone up 300+ for going month to month on lease. Not to mention rent went up 60.00 to renew same month lease as initial lease. Office staff have been easy and pleasant to work with but also feel they are stuck to a script and can't make to many accommodations for current residents. Only talked to manager through email but office staff have interacted with face to face, email, and telephone again each time pleasant to work with.
Pros - Close to base Close to activities in area Front office staff is pleasent well maintained grounds, pool was clean. area is fairly quiet
Cons- Appliances need updated HVAC, Water heater, Dishwasher Parking is horrible Layout of cabinets/sink/dishwasher less then ideal Kitchen storage under rated Rent was moderate for first lease but quick to raise after one year.
Again my thoughts only.
Update 7-12-17 After posting this review I was contacted by the building manager discussed some issues and concern as have written above. But their simple answer was not a issue appliances will not be replaced we have no appliance replacement timeline wait till things break and can not be repaired before replacement. Also spoke with them saying have competition coming to the area what are you looking to do to keep your teannts. Said that was an issue they would tackle when came had no plans to do anything right now.
In fall the property maintenance came into apartment and replaced the sliding glass door to patio. Awesome. Well fast forward three months or more and the wood frame around door was not replaced nor was it properly caulked or sealed with any kind of silcone. So I now have an issue with bugs coming in around door and also come in around the unsealed duct work for return air vent. Been nothing but issues since moving into this apartment. Looking forward to moving out in...
Read moreSherwood village is a disgrace. The town homes are awful with keeping in any heat. In the winter they are freezing cold. In the summer they are scorching. There are holes in the roof. None of my doors can actually shut and if they do you have to use force to even get them to close all the way. None of the door locks work. The stairs are loud when walking up or down them and you will notice nails sticking out of the carpet under the railing. The railing is loose and very unsafe. The cell phone service here is pathetic. I have many missed and dropped calls I wonât even talk on my phone when I am home. There is insolation all around this area. As well as trash every where. The walls are coated with paint as if after each renter they just painted the same ugly white paint and went over every door hinge in the process. They make you pay $30 per pet for these dollar store quality plastic poop bags they put out which are rarely filled. Safety is NOT a priority here. Do not make the mistake of...
