Memorial Pool — Local services in Fair Lawn

If you live in Fair Lawn you've probably joined some of the Facebook groups by now where we all get to argue about the pros and cons of having a pool that's made of sand instead of a pool that's made out of concrete. If you're anything like me and you grew up in a rural part of the area with lakes and rivers and large ponds Etc..... the kind that you can swing into off of a thick rope in the middle of the summer or jump off of an old train bridge into and then go hang out for the rest of the day with your friends riding bikes around town... Then this pool is super nostalgic and reminiscent of all of the above. I personally like that it seems more natural than it does man-made and I personally think that that adds to the pool versus if it were concrete and sterile looking... there are other towns nearby with those concrete pools if the more natural setting isn't for you... Otherwise hanging out here with my family during the day reminds me of growing up as a kid and going to Waywayanda State Park ... Hanging out on the beach and then splashing in the lake with all of the other families and not a worry in the world about whether or not somebody had to change a diaper. Not a worry in the world about whether or not you were going to see some kind of a lake creature... Not a worry in the world if a little bit of the water got splashed on your face and into your mouth... We all survived just fine and nobody got sick and a good time was had without all of the nonsense... I personally think that Fair Lawn does a fantastic job keeping that pool clean even in the busiest times of the season... I've been there on days where it was jammed packed and you couldn't even find a place to park... Of course I immediately thought that I did not want to be in a body of water with that many people... Because at that point it was definitely a bit overwhelming... But after sitting in the sun for about an hour and a half I took a look around and I realized that they were pumping so much chlorine into that body of water that I should just snap out of it and go have a nice time... And I did... And I think anybody with doubts should probably do the same because it's one of the best times that you can have locally over the summer if you don't want to Trek up to the lake or down to the shore... I know it can be a bit expensive... But if you're going to find the time or you have off over the summer... Or you're a stay-at-home parent... It's money well-spent in my opinion. From what I gather this year will be the first year for an addition of a splash area for the kids... And as it currently stands they do have a small kiddie area for the really young ones. They have a couple concession stands that are reasonably priced... They have a small area across from the office where you can bring some charcoal and cook your own food if you want... They have a swing set area for the kids and some outdoor exercise equipment as well... You can call Ray's Pizza while you're there and they'll send a delivery guy down to meet you with whatever you order from them which is just awesome and a huge bonus... They have plenty of tables around the perimeter for you to sit at and eat with your family if you want to pack lunch or whatever... Absolutely no alcohol is permitted on the beach... if your kid wants to go swimming in the Deep Water Area they have to pass the deep water test... No exceptions... Please listen to the lifeguards when they try and direct you to take care of that... I can't tell you how many hundreds of times they must have to warn people about that all summer... speaking of lifeguards I think that they do a great job keeping an eye on everybody there... I've never once felt at risk being there with my six year old... And from what I understand even when there have been emergencies the lifeguards have handled them professionally and in a very rapid manner... So yeah it's not a concrete pool that allows you to see the bottom... So yeah maybe it's more like a lake than it is a pool... but it's safe, fun, local and perfect for families on hot...

NOT FRIENDLY for people of color at all. Every 10 minutes my family had to be questioned if we had bracelets yet everyone we were surrounded with had no bracelet. We had our dog with us in the sandy area, that is when two police officers on a golf cart stops us and says our dog isn’t allowed. I asked if I could have him in the park they continued to say no dogs were allowed at all and that we need to take him home. That was totally understandable until I saw multiple people with dogs. I immediately go to the officers to tell them there are dogs in the park and they respond saying they’re not in control of the park area. Those two officers should be ASHAMED of themselves. Memorial Pool might be Fair Lawn's crown jewel, and the envy of towns across North Jersey.
