Last summer our family road tripped from our home in California to Western North Carolina. En route, the transmission of our Toyota Sienna died 200 miles outside Las Vegas, Nevada. We were stranded, road-side, no cell service, in 108 degree weather, with our 6-month old baby on board. One thing led to another and we made it to the metropolis of Vegas (whew). We did not expect to purchase our dream vehicle (and home away from home), yet 3 days later we found ourselves continuing our journey east in a Mercedes Sprinter Van.

The rest of our journey was uneventful in comparison, yet we found ourselves smiling in a daze and in a bit of disbelief that we had purchased this machine and future dream camper/home.

My wife and I (and 6 month old baby) had planned to spend the summer with her family in Fairview, North Carolina - just outside of Asheville. We were planning to spend time with family and help run Hickory Nut Gap Farm Camp. The purchase of the van was exciting, however I felt a bit overwhelmed by the project of converting it.

That’s when I found Blue Ridge Adventure Vehicles. I contacted the company and was kindly told there was a waiting list. Nonetheless the owner of the company (Thomas) was willing to offer me advice and invited me to his workshop. Thomas went above and beyond by showing me his current projects and walked me through some of the more technical aspects of converting our van including: insulation, solar, plumbing, heating/cooling, kitchen layout, cupboards and sleeping configurations. I recently had the pleasure of working with Thomas at Blue Ridge Adventure Vehicles for some upgrades on my van. I am absolutely thrilled with the results and feel compelled to share my experience.

Thomas installed a Van Compass suspension upgrade, Owl wheels, and new tires on my vehicle. His workmanship was nothing short of top-quality and professional. Second time around: I wanted to thank Thomas and BRAV team for producing a great van, this is my second by them. The van was completed approximately a year ago, but I have held reviewing until after my first major trip. I just returned from a 12-week excursion across the US, returning via Canada totaling ~ 11,500 miles. During the trip I camped in campgrounds, RV parks, dispersed camped, and included some serious off-road boondocking. All components, like suspension modifications, etc. performed as designed. Besides some routine tightening of some cabinet latches from shaking, no issues with the interior components either. After a serious cleaning both inside and out, all looks good after the trip and from a design perspective, could not be happier. The only thing I would change is to have the toilet (in drawer) rotated by 90 degrees for easier use. Thomas, as previously, was a pleasure to work with and completed the build in a timely fashion, keeping me informed and updated on progress throughout. Costing and the quote estimate were straight-forward and Thomas delivered the van on his quoted price. I did have an early issue with the air conditioner which really turned out to be user error by me, but Thomas helped with great customer service helping me troubleshoot the issue and then getting me in contact Nomad customer service.
