Sky Mountain Pizza — Restaurant in Fairview

My wife and I were in the area Visiting and decided to give this place a try. We called in an order and we’re treated very rudely on the phone. The representative that took out order was very short with us, placing us on long holds without explanation and very seemed very annoyed. When arrived to pick up the order and met the representative who took our call. He asked me to wait outside on a very cold evening while he checked on my order, he never returned to give me an update, just left me standing in the cold for over 10 min with no explanation or updates. All this would have been fine but as I was waiting and staring through the glass I watched him taking calls (touching the phone), scratching his bare head, picking up pens all with no gloves then reaching into to fridge and pulling out Deli meats and lettuce to make salads and sandwiches. No gloves, just touching raw foods and everything with his bare hands and never washed them once. I was very disturbed and will never order here again.

Thank you for the reply. I understand you wanting to defend your reputation for cleanliness but I know exactly what I saw. Had I not left my phone in the car I would have recorded it. I know what clear gloves look like and they were not being worn. Additionally, had gloves been being worn they would need to be replaced between touching deli meats and salad lettuce and croutons, not to mention, phones, scapes, pens etc. your reply is a reflection of the customer service we received. I don’t own a restaurant but I know cross contamination when I see it. Restaurant 101. Changing my review to 1 star. In the midst of a pandemic what I saw was a lack of care and completely unsanitary for a food service worker. I feel bad for mom and pop business like yours but a little courtesy and cleanliness would go a long way. This place does operate like it’s 1970. You have to phone to order and read your credit card number and CVC to them. And they will ask, as the machine does prompt, “do you want to leave a tip?” That is a little intimidating, not sure I would say no. Since COVID tipping is so standard but I don't give more than a couple of dollars.

I read the reviewer complaints, but being a mile from this place on a Thursday evening, I decided to give it a try.

It was the best Margherita pizza I’ve had in Asheville. I come from NY and Boston so that’s saying something… The ingredients are simple but very flavorful. Fresh basil, fresh tomatoes, and a quality cheese.

A medium pizza might feed two if you had sides, the price of $18 was fair.

On arrival for the first time it’s a little weird to find a brass bell sitting on a table in front of their door, with sign ‘ring bell.’ They will open the door to get your name and you wait on the uncovered porch for your order to be brought out. It was a nice evening, so it wasn’t a big deal and the pizza was ready a few minutes early.

I did wish I could see what the place looked like inside, they are after all preparing my dinner… but a giant stack of flour sacks fills one window, so not much to see.

What to say what to say! This place is hands down the best pizza joint around. Everytime we come into town we Always Always make it a point to drop by to grab a pie! It is locally owned which is a huge point for me in supporting most spots. The Gentleman that always answers the phone is nice and always make sure we are in Fairview because of our out of town number. From fresh ingredients to really awesome dough recipe and sauce Sky Mountain Pizza takes the cake. Every single time we've gone it's been a delightful experience and we always can't wait to order more when in town. The location rubs up on you depending on what side if the tracks you are coming from but we usually slow down a lot to make sure we get the spot! This is a call ahead place so please keep that in mind when ordering. No sitting area but there is a Brewery next door that allows you try bring their delicious pizza over and enjoy a tasty beverage with it!
