Aside from just presenting an awesome view of the entire fair, the Skyride is a strategic part of any state fair visit. While it is, indeed a better deal to do a round trip, you can hope on the Skyride right as you enter the fair, and then work your way back through the fair. It's completely enclosed, so folks that don't like heights should be fine. Just note if you are by your self, they won't do singles on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, so be prepared to make a new friend.    Read moreThis classic VR101 Skyride is an excellent part of the fair. Riding it as a child, it always fascinated me. At that time I had skied on several other detachable systems out west, but it most reminded me most of Lutsens (now removed) PHB/Hall (Giovanola) system relocated from Loon Mountain. Although the system has been upgraded over the years it still retains its charm with VR101 gravity box grips and lack of any contour chains or tires.
