I’ve debating if I should leave a negative review. But seems like the five star reviews include some of their own teachers and staff. I decided to share my story. I’m sure there are still many happy customers and I do not mean to downplay its positive influence on others, at all. Too many students each class. I counted there are around 20. I didn’t mind it because my daughter was happy as long as her friend was there. Unclear payment instructions. I was stopped from leaving the door with my 3yr due to “owe” them $1.52, after paying $75 for 3 classes. My payment screen was also confirmed by staff before clicking last step. I’m a new Venmo user. Turns out it is owners expense that doesn’t show on users interface on Venmo. I respectfully declined the additional invisible cost, and suggested them to let me know next time when I register for fall. As a result, I was called out for been disrespectful and aggressive. And my 3 years old new dancer were told not to return the center due to my action. The owner deducted the $1.52 from our remaining tuition. She sure knows how to make a mother guilty. I finally asked around in local groups because I’ve never experienced such treatment but we’re also new to Pennsylvania. Sad to find out I’m not the only one had experienced similar invisible cost plus unfair treatment from this center. Contacted authority for unfair business practices. This center now includes the business charge on the top of user payment, with clear instructions on the website. This center has also stopped demanding customer to pay over “family and friends” to avoid business expenses. (At least that’s what they said). One after thoughts, the manager was raising her voice with high pitch and her hands were shaking while talking to me, especially she had to repeat multiple times that the owner asked me to pay her the fees I owed and I should to. I don’t know if she was shaking due to anger, or shaking because she was doing something she was unwilling to. Please get out of the toxic work environment if that’s what you’re experiencing. If it was because of anger, then I have nothing to say. This whole place was very hostile towards new customers, and...
Read moreMy oldest daughter danced at Downstage from the time she was 3 all the way through high school and my youngest daughter currently dances here and has since she was 3 as well. I can't begin to say enough about how wonderful this studio was/has been for both of them for the past 20+ years. They have made many friends and have grown so much as women and dancers here. It's refreshing to see them so excited about going to class every week. I'm very proud of the owner, Dani, and the way she has touched so many kids' lives throughout the years. Her studio has been a home to many dancers throughout their formative years and it's a pleasure to watch them mature into young adults. Many of them come back as alumni to perform at the recitals which is a testament to the culture of Downstage Center. The teachers are top-notch and I look forward to the amazing recitals every year. Combining professionalism while keeping dance fun and inclusive for all is what sets Downstage Center apart and it is evident in the performances as well as the kids' commitment to...
