My family and I were visiting Amelia Island and stopped by the Plantation Shop while staying at a villa nearby. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and offensive. While browsing, we overheard a male worker make the comment: “They are not going to buy anything, they are too broke.” Not only was this comment unprofessional and rude, but it was also incredibly disrespectful to paying guests of the area.
To make matters worse, after his remark, he proceeded to follow us around the store as if we were going to steal something. This behavior was not only insulting but made us feel unwelcome and targeted. We entered the store with the intention of shopping, but after this treatment, we left feeling humiliated and disrespected.
No customer should ever be spoken about in this way or treated with such suspicion. This kind of conduct reflects poorly on the business and is unacceptable in a place that relies on tourism and hospitality. (We did end up buying something so I guess don’t judge a book...
