I would occasionally run into Winn-Dixie every now and then for some bogos, meat specials or something I'm out of and need right now, I drop my son off at the gym next door four times a week. I do like their honey ham from the deli and their own roasted turkey breast, however yesterday while grabbing a few of the items I mentioned I headed to the seafood department to surprise my son with some steamed seasoned shrimp that they cook there. Once I placed my order the clerk had told me that I must pay for my seafood items before he can cook them, I also wanted to order two lobster tails and some cod fish. For a minute I looked at him and said you're joking right and he explained to me know that that is the manager's discretion, so I asked to speak to one. Granted I've been going to this Winn-Dixie for 5 plus years and never ever did I have to pay before I ordered. The lady standing next to me said maybe it has something to do with people on food stamps that they can't be trusted. So of course I gave her that look and asked her if that's not considered labeling, she turned to me and said well you can't trust anybody anymore. The manager then appeared and we had a discussion about what the clerk had told me, she said yes ma'am this is correct, i asked her why and she really couldn't give me a straight answer, all she said to me was that this was a policy of Winn-Dixie for a long time and while recently coming to the store she realized that this rule was not implicated and she changed that. I looked at her pushed my cart towards her and said well now you won't be making any money because I am no longer buying anything here! On my way out of the parking lot I had called the seafood department at the Bayshore store and ask them if I would have to pay for my seafood first before getting it, they said...
Read moreThis Winn Dixie had been open for many years, I honestly used to be turned off by certain aspects of the supermarket. Such as the higher prices, lacking in varieties of food products, outdated interior, and the overall vibe just put me off. Please keep in mind I'm comparing it solely to Public supermarket.
However, they just recently (2018) revamped the store, from inside to out. The exterior now has fresh paint, different colors, and they added an entrance to the other side of the store. This makes your parking decision a lot easier than trying to park ONLY near the South side's previous sole entrance.
The interior had a makeover as well. From the walls, flooring and isles. The styling is had a much-needed boost, and for those that rely on an automated scootering to get your grocery shopping done, they mow have at least 5 brand new scootering machines (near the newly created North side entrance. Being legally disabled, with disabilities effecting the lower part of my body), I DEPEND on such accommodations. I was truly ecstatic about this, because if not for the scooters I'd be forced to haul my wheelchair to shop there.
Lastly, the specialized departments, i.e. Deli, Seafood, are nicer looking as well, and they seem to have different food selections too. Now with more staff, a larger variety of food products, revamping of the store, and large ratio of disabled persons in need to implement it surpasses my expectations.
Finally, Winn Dixie got it right AND I know the local community in which they rely upon...are no...
Read moreI really love this place. Always great deals on meats and regular staples. Download the app and always turn on the 8x points when you come into the store. The BOGOS are pretty much how I buy in the meat department these days. Shop the aisles for discontinued items, non advertised specials and bargains. When it comes to specials on paper products, pay attention to what you're getting: count the sheets on toilet paper and towels on paper towels to ensure you're getting the best deal possible - it's right there on the price and the packaged label. I pretty much buy paper products when they go on sale nowadays. Winn-Dixie has a decent produce department but everything is so expensive today and most of their fruits and vegetables come from other countries so they're not the freshest available. I go right down the road to Nelson's Farms for locally grown produce and fresh herbs. They stay fresher longer and you can buy 5 lemons for $2 as opposed to 99 cents each.
Overall I think it's one of the best stores around for grocery shopping. They have a great meat department and are always helpful when you are looking for something and you can't find it. Their seafood department is also very good and you can get some great bargains for items...
