UPDATE They DO NOT take feedback seriously. I have repeatedly called and tried to get a hold of their Executive Director - they are total liars. No one calls me back and they either hang up on me or send me to voicemail. They refuse to acknowledge they are trying to steal $2700 from a woman their lack of care almost killed. They continually lie and say my mother rescinded her notice when she did not and they cannot provide written proof of this. We have had to go to our bank and make a claim against their charge but I cannot get anyone on the phone ever and will have to escalate this. Since they changed ownership they sent my mother to the ER twice and dropped another resident who also went to the ER and then a skilled facility as a result. This is very dangerous care. I reiterate that I would NOT let my loved one stay here. This is written March 2nd 2025. If you are thinking of this place - think again. Happy to communicate with anyone looking to put family here and show proof of what they did.
Families and Elderly, Please stay FAR away from this place. About 3 months ago they were taken over by a new corporation in California. They immediately raised prices and cut amenities - starting with the food. Dinners became grilled cheese with highly processed food. High in sodium, low in nutrition. My mother is a high risk for infection (which they know) and 3 times in the last 3 months she had to go to the ER. The last time she ran a fever for over 4 days before they finally called an ambulance and when she was rushed to the hospital she was SEPSIS and almost had her leg amputated at the hip! Thankfully her infectious disease doctor saved her leg. About 40 days prior to this incident my mother sent her 30 day notice so when this happened I cleaned out her room and told the staff her notice was definitely in effect. Well guess what? Yep - they just put through a charge for ANOTHER MONTH. When I called them about it Alexa hung up on me and then refused to answer my calls after that forcing me to pursue other recourse. I know for a fact other residents were taken to the hospital based on something that happened to them as a result of the care provided. My mother doesn't need memory care - luckily she is super with it and told me what was happening to her there - but imagine if your family member could not do that? How would you know what is happening to them? Summary: Stole money and refusing to respond or refund knowing full well notice was sent. Endangered my family member's life in a serious way by not getting her the care she needed in a timely manner. charges for every thing (like for pets) even though residents have to pay someone separately to come in and truly care for the pet (despite the facility charging for it). raises prices every year but degrades the services Horrible food - high in sodium, chemicals, low nutrition - my mother's cholesterol jumped since living there so has her blood pressure and other issues in her blood work.
If you value your family member please DO NOT bring them here. AVOID if you value your...
Read moreThere are some wonderful people who we met while our loved one was under rehab at Brookdale Denver. We enjoyed meeting them. However, there are serious flaws with the organization, and the staff doesn't share patient needs between each other very well. Also, during rehab, one practice was done a day (speech, occupational or physical). During the rest of the time, the rehab patients largely engaged in watching TV or sitting and playing games. Unfortunately, this does not help someone get stronger. We know of another facility that does all types of therapy each day, and will encourage patients to exercise on their own, or help them to walk at other times. So, before coming, see the facility review at medicare.gov.
RESPONSE TO Brookdale Denver: The job a rehab facility should work at is to help the patient get stronger, if possible. We struggled with this issue and had to ask the facility to do a health check for a possible UTI at one point. Then, we never got a straight answer as to if one existed or not because of the need for further cultures.. Also, our loved one had 2 falls at the facility during a 21-day stay-- the second early the morning of discharge. We were told they were at baseline, but no offer was made for an off-site check up, even though there was bruising. It was also unclear if the "baseline" test included standing, transfers, etc. The bottom line was that there was a sharp decline between acceptance into group home, and actual placement 2 days later. The next day after going to the group home, the group home patient acceptance director suggested the patient be checked in a hospital because of the decline from one assist to two assist in just two days. We are now completing rehab in a more thorough environment.
Suggestions were given to staff member leaders at Brookdale. We hope attention is given, because future patients deserve more thorough care and attention to detail. Again, check out the ratings before selecting any facility, and if possible, make a site...
Read moreUnless you have time to waste, don’t bother with this place. I started looking for a memory care facility for my sister in California over a year ago. From the beginning, this facility kept contacting me every couple of months, asking if I had made a decision and pushing for my business.
When I was finally ready to move my sister, I met again with the coordinator, who assured me there would be no problems. We did the assessment over FaceTime, and that’s where the red flags started. The nurse seemed fixated on the fact that my sister doesn’t like to take showers—something that is extremely common with Alzheimer’s patients—yet showed no real concern for her actual care needs. At that time, my sister wasn’t on a medication schedule, which I explained, but instead of asking important questions, the nurse didn’t even bother to meet my sister until I pushed for it. When she finally did, she spoke to her for a few seconds and abruptly ended the call.
A few days later, the facility contacted me to say my sister wasn’t a “good fit” because of her hygiene. That told me everything I needed to know. If a so-called memory care facility doesn’t even understand that hygiene challenges are a direct symptom of dementia, they are not equipped to care for Alzheimer’s patients—period. Their lack of basic knowledge and dismissive attitude made it clear they had no idea what...
