First, I want to address the negative review from "livingbythedraw" regarding the poor conditions and unsaveable animals. The attitude of this kind of a human is one of the many reasons that places like this need to exist and be supported. No kill shelters take in plenty of animals that don't have challenges &/or special needs that are perfectly suitable for someone seeking a companion or family pet. Most importantly, they take in the ones that simply need a chance by the right kind of humans who specifically love challenged/special needs animals and have the time, devotion and patience to work with them. I rescued a dog from death row in December. He came with many challenges that he is successfully overcoming every single day. "Fear biting" with strangers is a challenge that I'm not sure he'll ever overcome because of what people have done to him in his past and I simply have to be vigilant when he meets new people. No big deal. Otherwise, he's amazing and a success story. I've been taking my other dogs here for 3 years and love the dedication of the doctors, staff and volunteers. I took the "new" furbaby here today and was nervous about whether they would even be willing to see him. I gave them the full background on his history and temperament, did my own part by having him in a harness and muzzle, and they were outstanding with him. They keep peanut butter and cheez whiz in the back specifically for patients like him, but also advised that they would have to deny him if he became a threat to any of them. He was extremely aggressive when they stuck him with a needle, but they did not give up on him, respected his boundaries, gave him the time/comfort/safety/security that he needed and it was another success/accomplishment in his journey of trust. He even gave kisses afterwards. I can't speak highly enough of their determination to treat, love and respect animals.
To the doctors and staff here who sacrifice a better pay in private clinics, you're angels on earth. Thank you for dedicating your lives to the lives that have no voice and to the people who love their animals, but can't afford outrageous vet bills to properly care for them. I'm blessed that I can afford to take my animals to a private vet, and they have one, but I purposely bring them to you for annual vaccines to support you and make a donation. You're a blessing and more appreciated...
Read moreI'm writing this review after attempting twice this week to be seen and they have been closed the majority of this week as well. Today I waited an hour, arriving at 8:20 am, outside in freezing temperatures in the 30s to get to the door and be told they were full yet again. The person ahead of me was told the same thing. Behind me there were probably easily 10 more people. Staff did not once come out and say there were full for anything as I would assume any decent professional business would. I also waiting in the parking lot about 10 more minutes after I was turned away and still no sign of any staff saying they were full for certain services.
They say it's first come first serve but I witnessed a HSNEG volunteer get her dog seen straight away and in maybe 10 minutes her dog was brought back to her and she was on her way. While other people who did get an appointment stood at the door waiting to give someone their paperwork back. The said tech who got the " volunteers" dog actually walked right by these people and acted like they weren't even there.
So in my opinion there is clearly favoritism, staff does not care. I mean I guess I wouldn't understand either if I was in the comfort of a heated building. I think there should be some big changes and the first come first serve standing out in the cold is ridiculous. Maybe give people the option of making appointments over the phone, not just for spay and neuter, and tell them that you're full so we don't waste our time. MAYBE give the people who were there at the 8:30 am sign who stood in the cold for an hour the chance to have an appointment the next clinic day.
I am very disappointed and I AM an existing client but I will be taking my business elsewhere. You may pay more at a regular veterinary clinic but I think I am going to be much happier dealing with that fee so I do not have to continue with this nonsense. Poor representation for serving the animals in...
Read moreWe had the most horrible experience imaginable here!!! If I could give a negative rating I would! My family and I went into the shelter Sunday afternoon during the “zero adoption fee” event. We completely fell in love with a chihuahua mix named, Yoshi. We have other dogs and they said that we have to do a meet and greet before we adopt her. I thought “wow! What a wonderful idea!” I gave a $25 donation (which was not needed since she was free) to hold her until Monday, for the meet and greet. I had 5 different employees there tell me here adoption fee was was part of the “zero” event! I came back to the shelter right at opening this am with both of my dogs, all excited to have them meet their new sister! They all got along great!!! Well, when I went to adopt Yoshi, all of a sudden they told me she wasn’t free and it would be $100. I explained what occurred Sunday and what I was told about her fee by NUMEROUS people. I was argued with by 3 employees and treated extremely rudely. They then said they would go get the manager. The manager NEVER came to speak with me, only sent word through the other rude employees that there was nothing they were willing to do. It wasn’t their fault that I was given incorrect information and I could either adopt the dog for the fee they stated or not. So, I left with out our new family member! My whole family fell in love with Yoshi and was so excited to bring her home!!! I have been in tears all day and now my children are upset as well. These people have no heart! DO NOT...
