Until last week, I loved this shop and have been visiting since childhood from back at the old location. However, there's one seller who I think is the owner? who is so condescending that I don't know if I can justify ever going back. I'm not un-used to being patronized at antique stores. I look young and it seems that older people are oblivious to the fact that there is an up-and-coming generation of antique, vintage, and retro enthusiasts. This particular seller does not label with prices. When I asked about some items, He threw prices out on the fly, which was totally obvious, and then punctuated every number with a haughty, "it's vintage." Well I should hope so, that's why I'm here. After about the third time of him proclaiming vintage authenticity, on a item that was definitely a reproduction piece, as I, being short and having the advantage of the underside view of the glass shelf, could clearly see the barcode and manufacturer label, had about had it; I still graciously asked about some very worn-out, but charming Christmas decoration. He gave me an over-priced quote for each and I offered to take both for $4 less than the combined total, to which he curtly said "no." I honestly would have paid his price, and probably a bit more, if he had been even slightly human, but after a second of reflection, I left. Why would I want to give this loathsome man a red cent?! I found the same items on eBay for a third of the cost even with shipping. Honestly, I would rather put my money in the hands of local business owners but not when they treat...
Read moreI want to preface this review with saying I bought a lot of great things for my personal collection that were under fair market value and was very satisfied with that and the employees were polite. However, when it comes to the actual sellers, they have no idea what they’re doing, or they really want to scam you so bad into buying items that are seriously over-priced. I was inquiring about a few collectible toys, granted they were mint-in-box, but were not vintage and were not worth more than 10-15 dollars in fair market value. They were also stowed away from clear eyes view and had no price tags on them (except the original retail sticker of $7.99) I figured the price would be reasonable ,and coming from an experienced toy collector, I believed I could get a great deal because this product is not scarce in the market whatsoever. The employee took the four I was interested in and said whenever I was done she’d have the sellers price on them. I come back to see the price tags said $25…for each! That’s a 65% mark up from fair market value. First you had them to where no one could see them with no price tag, which insinuates you didn’t care enough about them to price them and instead of making a good deal and getting them into the right hands, you over charge by 65%. That is a terrible business model and you lost out on profit because no collector is paying 65% over fair market value for a product released less than 20 years ago. Rethink...
Read moreHey all, so the only reason im giving two stars is because of the employees. They are actually very friendly. Also the reason why im giving two stars is because of the suit and tie behind the counter. Whats his name? Carl? Bob maybe? Who knows, who cares. Going to call him jim. I was literally in line for ALMOST 20 minutes jim, because you wanted to have a personal conversation with god knows who. You even looked at me, dead into my eyes, tried to be polite and i said “oh no please take your time” thinking you would wrap it up In a couple minutes. Nah you just took your sweet old time, was trying to spend money and i did. Just do you know who i am thats writing this, i want you to know. I offered 500 for a piece thats been sitting there on the wall for almost 4 months. Probably even longer. You know the shark one, Yea you know. I know the tag said 750 but you didnt even call and ask him. I even went up to 600. Six hundred. Still said no. There was a layer of dust on the top of it lol. It’s insane how selfish you are and everyone in smithville, galloway, absecon, port. They all know it and thats why no one spends significant money there. Customer service from you is basically non existent. Love the people that work there tho very kind. Not you tho carl,...
