Talk about a Treasure Box. I came upon this phenomenal Gem while in search of something else. Alas, funny that when in search of one fashion staple, you can all too often come upon another. As I previously stated, I came upon a Gem. That Gem is embodied in Uptown Cheapskate Gilbert. That Gem is in the variety and quality and superb prices of Uptown’s treasures’. That Gem is embodied within the culture that is very clearly evident at the Gilbert location, and it starts at the Top, and most certainly trickles down to the very Awesome Staff. I make that statement with firsthand experience. It was a most outstanding display of professionalism and leadership. Allow me to expand……. while checking the racks, I find a gorgeous staple. I’m trying the jacket on at the mirror, and to the best of my recollection, make a bit of conversation with a woman to my right, Aleisha. I get the impression that this woman is a Manager- strong, bold, intelligent, hard working, open, engaging. Her awesome degree of openness allowed me to spaz out at her nails. I observed them and swooned, as I do my own at home, and value seeing others for inspiration. Aleisha allowed me to even take a picture for further reference. Now, lo and behold, wouldn’t you know on my next return, while in negotiation proceedings for the jacket I found, with my Husband, I see a posting on the wall with Aleisha on it. I walk over and realize it’s about the Store, and she’s the Owner. The woman I spoke to that night, hanging up clothes on the rack, talking to me, letting me take a picture of her nails…The Owner. Leadership from the top!
I recently watched a podcast with Magic Johnson. He was discussing his encouragement to Howard Schultz in franchising Starbucks. In one particular instance, one particular Starbucks, one particular morning, Magic was onsite. There was a line of Customers out the door and around the corner. Inside the Starbucks, Magic is walking the floor, saying hello to everyone, when he sees a couple of customers spill their coffee. A Manager hurries over to clean it up, but Magic encourages the Manager to tend to the line out the door, and instead gets the mop and bucket himself. Everyone in the Starbucks, customers outside in line, see Magic Johnson push up a mop and bucket to clean up spilt coffee. Leadership from the top. Aleisha Yanagawa Is just such the same type woman, and leads, inspires her Staff to walk the same. During negotiation proceedings with my Hubby, I was taken care of by wonderful staff. I made sure to get one such young woman’s name so I could share it here: Makenzey. I’m from the South, Georgia to be specific, and we acknowledge giving credit where it’s due. She is the real deal in Customer Service, leadership, and attentiveness. Thank you kindly my dear Makenzey. My experience was nothing short of an unexpected treasure hunt completed, due to your presence around me as...
Read moreIt was my first time selling clothes here. I said I would leave, but then they explained the wait time (very quietly I could barely understand what was said). But waiting would be 30-40 mins so I told them I’d shop around instead. I waited for longer than that amount of time and asked if “could use the restroom or would that count as leaving.” I should’ve known something was wrong when she gave me a confused look and said yeah. So I went to McDonald’s and came back because it was taking forever!! 1.5 later I see people after me finishing their transaction and I ask for an eta. She told me I was in a different que and said that now she can put me on the line. Your employees don’t communicate very well and aren’t very friendly (expect the person who had to hear how upset I was). Attempting to sell here was a waste of time. It’s young teen girls who don’t really care about their job & they sell lulu for $40 with stains on them.
Edit to the response: Your employee was asked to repeat themselves because they were so soft spoken I could still not understand what she was saying both times. To what my knowledge was I was signing this form IF I were to leave, but I verbally stated I was staying to shop because the short wait time. So again, your staff misunderstood me and they need to take responsibility on that instead of pointing the blame for a first time seller with you. They DID NOT explain again I was in a drop off queue when I asked to leave to use the restroom. So that’s false information. As a business, you should learn from the mistakes made from an interaction instead of acting perfect because this experience was far from great. Are you going to address the lifeless greeting and expressions or lack of on their faces talking to me or not making eye contact to ensure the customer is even hearing you explain anything to her. Please review the cameras and see how I didn’t even hear the girl speaking to me because she was almost whispering, and this was in a quite place. She was talking to herself for who knows how long. I’m sure that was not analyzed and you probably took the employees word. There are many opportunities to learn from this. Your staff needs training,...
Read moreFirst and foremost I don’t want this review to be a critique of the business owner and the employees. I’d rather this be a warning to people coming in to try and sell for future references. I came in today with 2 bags full with decent clothes and was told the wait to sell was about 30-45 mins. As I looked around and waited my turn, I wasn’t surprised that yet another second-hand store was full of cheaply made micro trends from years prior (think “howdy” rhinestone shirts, cow print jeans, a bunch of shein or pretty little thing tags, and a bunch of repeat clothes from Urban outfitters). Nothing caught my eye. When they said my items were done, they told me that they weren’t buying anything today mostly because of “the condition they’re in”. That took me by surprise for two reasons. Almost every piece of clothing in those bags were “on-trend”, very popular brands (princess Polly, urban outfitters, and hell even old navy), and even some trends from the years previous. I can understand the previous trends not being accepted, but a lot of the pieces that were popular brands I HAD JUST SEEN ALL OVER THEIR STORE WITH THEIR OWN HIGHLIGHT SECTIONS was a no-go?? Okay,, weird. Secondly, a bunch of the clothes I brought in were never worn or worn lightly. There were basics (like a black and a white tank top, which I’m 100% would sell), dresses, and even a pair of slacks for the girls hunting for casual-office wear. I would think the condition for most of those clothes is ready for their racks.
I’ve worked in retail for a long time,, I’m very aware of what sells, what flops, and how to predict trending items. I’m very disappointed in this venture today and the business model at this location. Maybe it’s just that they can’t take more clothes because their shelves are stocked with cheaply made and currently undesirable items that won’t free up any space 🤷♀️. The mens section, although small, had way better finds and quality to it. However, I don’t particularly see myself shopping at this store/location anytime in the future. I feel like I’d have better luck finding clothes at Desert Industries or Buffalo...
