Very disappointing, especially since I was super excited about learning how to use power tools for the first time and wanted to take the beginner's course. My experience was frustrating, to say the least. Not a place where you can call and talk to someone directly to figure out the best way to get started. It's just a recording and you're directed to a website, if I recall correctly. I'm old fashioned, plain and simple, as well as an older person. I was expecting a more personal interaction and I finally gave up, totally bummed out. I feel bad giving this review, because I really, really wanted to learn how to work with wood and these specific power tools, but alas, it appears it wasn't meant to be. That said, I wish them the best because there is a need for this service. Plus, I truly believe our society needs more "community workshops" like what this one is trying to do, I just think that it needs to be easier for someone to get the help one wants, or needs. This really was a frustrating and, ultimately, disappointing experience, I'm sorry to say. I would encourage Community Workshop use a more personal interaction, including "call-backs," where one can speak directly or meet directly with a representative to discuss what a person really wants to "takeaway from their learning experience," respectively. I had plenty of ideas and designs, I just didn't get a chance to verbalize them to anyone in particular, which left me feeling both unimportant and "dumb" for needing their help in the first place. I wish I could say something positive, but it wasn't a warm and fuzzy...
Read moreThe Community Woodshop has everything: jointer, planer, table saw, panel saw, shaper, band saw, chop saw, sharpening station, hand tools, drill press, lots of tables to work on, and best of all a really inspiring community to be around. The owners are super helpful in showing you how to use all the machines and work with you to figure out which machines and processes are the best for realizing your project.
As a fine artist with some experience working with wood the Community Woodshop gave me access to all the tools I needed and the benefit of working along other woodworkers of all different skill levels and backgrounds. The shop hosts classes for beginners and for people wanting to expand their woodworking knowledge with specific skills like joinery and cabinet making. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a wood project in mind or for people who just want to check out...
Read moreIt's a great place to make furniture and other wood objects, and to learn about basic and advanced woodworking, but what makes it truly unique is that it truly has a feeling of 'community.' As a veteran of numerous maker spaces, I can say this is not something that is easy to acheive. The quality and variety of tools available is excellent, and I love the fact that I don't have to do any of the maintenance / sharpening / adjusting. Members are extremely polite about sharing tools, and the staff is extremely helpful. I used to have a woodshop in my studio, but I much prefer this environment. I find my productivity and workflow is improved by the fact that they have pretty much every tool, so all I need to bring is an idea and some wood. Whether you are an expert, or an absolute beginner, I strongly recommend you drop by...
