My first review in the new year, 2024! I had my first meal of 2024 here. They were open thankfully 5-9 PM for dinner on New Year's Day. The restaurant is probably like an old warehouse. The railway was just behind the restaurant, so you can hear loud noises every time a train passes by. They had a row of parking spots reserved for customers just outside the entrance. There was also a lot of free street parking. They had restrooms past the kitchen, but the restrooms were pretty dirty. One of them had a creepy doll portrait above the toilet. They had string lights and heaters on, so it was pretty inside. They also had a separate section where the bar was. I ordered the cocktail called What's Good Here. Our waitress explained (more like warned us about) the little flower thing that came with the drink. It was a like a pepper that gives you a numbing feeling. We got an extra one for $1 so my eating partner and I could both try it. It was interesting to try for the first time, but I wouldn't do it again. I didn't particularly enjoy the feeling. Avocado hummus $16 - I wanted some pita and hummus to start, but this avocado didn't quite satisfy my craving. The pita was 1000% amazing though. I highly recommend getting it. It smelled and tasted like peanuts. Cleopatra $18 - I wouldn't get this again just because the entree I got also had butter leaf lettuce. They put too much vinaigrette for my taste. It's a layered salad, so each leaf had lots of dressing. The last one had way too much. Duck $85 - this was a dinner special that was not on the menu. It was served with butter leaf lettuce, some fresh herbs, and some sauces. The duck was amazing, something I'd get again. They clearly didn't wash the lettuce because I found bugs. The waitress replaced them and that was it. It's too bad this happened. I hope it's not a regular thing for them to skip corners. Banana caramel tiramisu $16 - I only got this because the warm apple cake was not available. It did not taste like alcohol and was not overly sweet. They probably could have made it look better by adding a mint leaf. It just looked like they cut a slice and slabbed it on the plate.

When I heard the former chef from 71 Above was now here, I had to give it a try. I consider myself to be a good amateur chef, but dining here was a master class on why I’m an amateur. Everything was perfection! There were so many layers of finely balanced flavors in every bite. All the details were splendidly attended and the result was a testament to the chef’s artistry and love of food. We started with the crispy squash blossoms. They were served with a mint leaf and a bit of honey. The dab of honey meant there was not too much sweetness and the mint leaf precisely complemented the floral tones. The cheese filling provided just the right saltiness and they were crisped without feeling deep fried. The khachapuri was a delight. The crust was soft and thick with a salty-herbed finish. I’d eat just the crust and be happy, but the filling was outstanding. There was a (not too) spicy sauce, some Armenian sausage, an egg, and gooey cheese. We cut small pieces off the crust and dipped it like fondue until the filling firmed up enough to cut pieces. Yum! The Benedict was heaven on a plate. A hearty whole grain toast held a thick piece of fried pork belly, tomato, a perfectly poached egg, and flawless hollandaise. The egg yolk was a dark orange like a Japanese egg and medium cooked to that sweet spot between runny and gel. The hollandaise had bright lemon notes that balanced the richness of the pork belly and yolk. Maybe the best Benedict I’ve had, and I’ve tried a lot of them. For dessert (not that we needed it) we had the profiteroles. A light and airy puff pastry shell filled with a pistachio gelato and drizzled with chocolate. The gelato was full of pistachios and felt more like a mixture of gelato and frozen pistachio butter. Like everything else we had there, it was oh, so good. I very highly recommend dining at Momed. If there were 6 stars, I’d give it. The pricing was very reasonable ($20-25 for an entree), and I could see it being a good value for more. I came away full, but not stuffed, so the portion sizes were spot on. This will rise to a prominent place on my list of great LA eateries.

This has to be the WORST place I have ever eaten at! It all began when we were seated next to a fence with a view of train track on a romantic Valentine's Day Evening. When I asked the hostess if I can move to a different table, I got a rude "the seats are pre-assigned". I then asked the random waiter if I can move and it was no problem at all. The drinks we ordered were great, but scared from the HORRIBLE food. We ordered a starter of beef and lamb dumplings that tasted so bad we had to switch them out for the Trio. (Pita and hummus. Sadly the best food at this place) My girlfriend got the chicken and potatoes that were burnt to a crisp and the chicken was so dry that it felt like eating sand. I ordered the Shish kabob and decided to switch with my girlfriend so that she had something to eat. The Shish Kabob was barely cooked and was extremely rare, we barely ate at all! Yet I paid for the drinks, the trio, and the kabob. I notified the manager of how awful the food was. Normally a manager would say "so sorry that you had a bad time, let me refund you and make things right". INSTEAD I got "you should of told us and we would of send you another chicken". Really? So now I had to take my girlfriend to go get pizza because we left hungry. If you are reading this, you will have a better chance getting some great food at a food truck than this place. Disgusting P.S. I included a screenshot from the owner responding to my Yelp review. It’s sad to see a clown insult a mans girlfriend. Maybe one day he will grow up and be able to take some criticism. Until then, keep squealing. Adios clown 🙃

The food was good, but the service left something to be desired. It might have had something to do with not anticipating a packed Thursday before a holiday weekend or maybe a server or two called out, but we were surprised by the overall guest experience.

We had a reservation, but it still took 15 minutes to get seated, not a big deal, but once we were seated no one greeted us for another ten minutes. Once we met our server, he took our order which was all fine. We asked to have two starters come out first then our entrees. Because one of the entrees came with couscous and I'm gluten free we asked to swap out for rice, which we were told would need to be ordered as a side. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying.

Our starters came out, the prawns and charcuterie. Both were fantastic. The sauce on the prawns was a perfect blend of saffron, lemon, and just touch of cream. The charcuterie was also great. We loved the balance on the plate and were surprised that the walnuts were just as great as the meat items. What was less than great was that when both dishes were carried out they were plopped on the table and then the runner left without any explanation of what each item was. We had the charcuterie on our table for five minutes before both our entrees came out. We understand getting everything out when it's hot, but timing could have been a little better. We barely were able to order wine to go with our entrees because the food came out so fast and we didn't have a chance to see our waiter before the plates dropped.

Our entrees were good, the flavor in the lamb was lovely, but it was slightly over cooked. It should have come out medium rare, but it was medium well. My short rib was perfectly cooked, but the rice I ordered didn't come out for 20 minutes after I received my food and only after we asked our server about it 3 times. By the time it came out, we were pretty much done eating and then our waiter felt like he had to explain why the rice took so long.

We ordered dessert, the creme brulee, which was phenomenal. Another server brought the brulee out and was horrified to see that our table hadn't been cleared from dinner. He cleared the table quickly, brought us a couple boxes, and took my husbands drink order. He was the highlight of service the whole night. Had we sat in his section, we would have had a much different experience. Finally, at the end of our meal, our server dropped the check without saying anything. The other server came, processed our payment, and exchanged a few words. He was great.

Overall, the food was pretty good. We'll probably give them another chance, but were disappointed by last...

Breakfast/Brunch Review

Momed is a wonderful place to catch up with your friends over breakfast with their clean decor and full sunlight bursting into the restaurant. When you first walk in during the day, the place feels modern and clean. Momed is not your typical breakfast diner restaurant with eggs and bacon, it's breakfast with a Mediterranean twist!

Below is what I tasted and some of it was completely new to me, which was a pleasant welcome.

-Mediterranean Breakfast Plate - The marinated olives on here were amazing. I've never been an olive type of girl, but I'm enjoying it more and more with each olive experience. I didn't try the cheese since it was Feta (goat milk base), but the brown cubes stuff on it was refreshingly different than anything I've had. I don't know what it's called, but it was sweet and tasted like soft sesame that crumbles inside your mouth. Give it a shot! The Cucumbers and Tomatoes was just a good pairing to clear out your pallet to begin with!

-Khachapouri - Kaseri Cheese- I can't even pronounce this plate, but it reminded me of a pizza with pita dough instead. It was flavorful and a good choice for vegetarian with cheese and red onions for topping.

-Shakshuka- This dish came in a skillet and had wonderful over easy eggs on top! It was packed with veggies and you got to watch out for the little chili surprise. My poor friend, Val, accidentally ate one and was breathing out fire for the next 5 minutes!

-Skillet Omelette- This was the more standard dish that I'm use to, but it still stuck with the restaurant's theme. Inside scrambled eggs omelet, it was filled with mushroom, spinach, and red onions...hmm, I think red onions is a popular ingredient here!

-Challah French Toast- This was really the STAR of the meal! The slices of toast with thick and literally melted in my mouth as I ate towards the center with the dates syrup drooling all over!

-Baklava- One of the best baklava I had, but it's sweet so make sure to have something to back it up! They have a variety, but I tend to stick with the original.

Overall, I would come back here and dine in with my friends and hopefully soon!

PS. there is free 2-hour parking down their street and they also cater from big to small events.
