I had bad experiences before writing this review. Today was the final straw. I valued the fact this store is locally owned, convenient, and is a gem to the community. I came to this place quite often as I tinker around with few projects. I have heard talk about the new ownership, but I took it with a gain of salt. First time I had a bad experience when I had a piece of wood cut 3x. The 3rd time I thought It was me who failed by giving the clerk the right dimensions. I came to the wood cutter explained what happened and asked can he cut out of piece of wood to replace the bottom of a drawer and handed him the drawer. He cut the piece out and there was 1/16 of an inch hanging out. Not everyone is perfect. I bought electric saw to fix it. Another time I had 4 keys made and I asked for a speciality light bulb. I made sure to have the bulb with me because of drawer episode. The new employee handed me the wrong bulb. I looked at the bulb the employee handed noticed right away it was wrong. I was like whatever and grab the right bulb. I followed the fellow to where the keys are made. He cut every last key wrong. Not one key worked. (Found out today a clerk here cut a friend’s keys wrong too) I kept coming to the store, but it was never for cutting anything. I always made sure I did my research before making a purchase. Today I guessed I failed to do my research before hand. I needed to replace a blown fuse. I had a picture of my fuse box as reference. My initial intention was to buy a few just in case. I had questions and was on the phone with a friend because I became flustered. I gave up and asked the guy at the counter my question. He seemed irritated by question. My friend on the phone heard the irritation in his voice. I did my research in the store and answered my question. When I approached the counter again the clerk began to asked did I find everything ok. I told him I got 2 bulbs just in case. He man-explained me about fuses how I was changing fuses wrong (I shut off the power before I change fuses). If I wasnt certain about fuses I should call someone at home, like my roommate. I don't know why he would suggest I have a roommate idk. I felt stereotype. Would he ask that question to a man or an older woman? It saddens me that I will no longer give my business to this business. It was so convenient, it has all the little stuff old homes need in the area. Hopefully it will get better after...

We are remodeling our Waterfront property. I have been lucky enough to find some products that we needed forgoing a trip to the nearest Home Depot and some of the tax money stays where I live. I have never had a problem with any employee at Pointe Hardware until yesterday. All I needed was an aerator for a faucet. I was greeted by a young lady who was courteous, kind and polite but it was obvious she was a new hire and didn't know where anything was thus she asked a this middle aged woman who was supposed to help me. Just to let you know I had researched what I needed online and confirmed Home Depot's app had the item, cost $4.00 and even what aisle and bay to find in. Well this knowledgeable employee first looked me up and down and I could tell immediately that she didn't approve. Maybe because I had on soiled work clothing from working in the yard and on the house yesterday. Anyway, she promptly told me that what I was looking for was not made separately and even though I had the original part, she has been there for over 20 years and, she refused to even try to find or locate the part I needed. I also needed 2 screws, she said "well you can look up in the front of the store but you probably won't find what you need. I did look where she directed me and I did find what I needed without her. I'm African American, and I'm not playing a race card here but in today's retail economy with a small Mom and Pop store competing against the Big Box retailers, it's hard, these big stores have put a lot of neighborhood stores out of business because they get huge discounts from their bulk purchases, while the little guys can't compete. You have to earn the respect of every dollar from a paying customer that comes in your door and the way I was treated by this woman was a huge disappointment and a firm reason of not wanting to shop there anymore. I'll just make the long drive to Home Depot, Lowe's or even Menards before I let anyone treat me like that. I maintained my demeanor and I told this woman that I was going to Home Depot, She said 'why would go there and spend God knows how much for something when you could get the whole part." that response made no sense to me. I went to Home Depot it cost me $4.00 problem solved, I would have purchased from Pointe if she would...

I stopped in and was greeted at the door by an older fella. His greeting was a blunt “do you know what you need?”. Not hello or anything, just that. I told him the basic overview of what I was there for and he started to turn around like he was going to walk away so I asked him if he could show me where it was, he started walking so I assumed I should follow. As we got to the area they were, he asked if I knew what size I needed and I confidently told him, what I thought was, the exact size. He asked crankily if I had the old one and I told him I didn’t know that there were that many options beyond the info I told him. He looked at me like I had just told him that I never noticed that the sky was blue and the grass was green. He showed me the options, I immediately recognized what I was looking for and he walked off without another word. Apparently, I’m the only person that isn’t handy in home maintenance in this town. I gave a two star review because they had what I was looking for. If they didn’t have it, I would have...

Loved this place! Was a little skeptical upon approaching the store but the employees were always asking if you needed help and were always walking around. Seemed like a very comfortable atmosphere where everyone knew each-other and there were so many things packed into a little store! Found some fun things like a bar stain remover that I have never seen before and they even had snacks and beverages. The counter dog was adorable and looked like he ran the whole store!

It’s always nice to see the dogs here. I got a good shower curtain, keys printed, and lots of other helpful tools here.
