Big Y in Guilford is one of the smaller Big Y stores, right next to the second smallest Walmart in America, and thus has to sacrifice shelf space and you feel it. In the summertime, you don't see New England style hotdog buns (Used to. Not any more.), even when you request them. The donut/pastry case selection is really small as are the fish and deli counters. The meats are another thing; I have yet to get a tender rib eye and buy them to cut up and pressure cook them for chili. Even higher end, pricier steaks are often tough to the point where I now buy everything but cold cuts at the Ferraro's meat market satellite in Madison (which is much cheaper and way better). There are a number of very nice people at the Big Y and customer service is top rate. Plus, you CAN NOT beat the "buy one, get two free" specials (over the years I've, literally, saved hundreds on baby back ribs alone) that cover several items each week. Along with the 7% discount for seniors on Tuesdays (used to be 10% but Big Y got small there) and the reoccurring weekly sales on a ton of items (stock up on the blue dot, 4 for twenty dollars meat specials), you can save a LOT of cash if you...
Read moreJohn damjanovich the manager. Totally unprofessional. Rude. And inconsiderate.
I shopped for my family. We live in an area that got hammered by the storm. No power next day I realized my food would all go bad so I brought it in to return it. Obviously their refrigerators are running. Everything I bought to return was in stock.
John refused to accept my items. All items are now bad. He belittled me and told me I should have my husband do a better job. I guess preventing a power outage. Not sure what he meant but it was insulting and disgusting and sexist. Then he told me to go to stop in shop. Literally.
I don't think I have EVER left a professional establishment feeling so mistreated and personally attacked.
My husband and I contacted corporate after this situation, and thankfully big y understood and apologized for Johns actions. I will continue to shop at big y. Thanks for listening to your...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite grocery stores. It is close to where my daughter lives and I shop there when I can. The produce is always fresh and well stocked, and the fish department is full of fresh fish. I asked if their shrimp had been filled with the goo stuff that some providers inject into their shellfish to plump them up and make them larger. The fish guy knew right away what I was talking about..."tri poly phosphates", and said that they did not and would not carry such items. Very impressive!!! The only problem is that certain items are not well stocked on the shelves but I guess that is more related to Covid panic buying than...
