UPDATE AS PROMISED IN MY REVIEW BELOW - BASED UPON THE OUTCOME OF TODAY’S FIX AND PROJECT COMPLETION I AM INCREASING MY RATING.
I spoke with the scheduling manager yesterday and it was agreed to send another crew to finish the job and correct issues listed below. Crew arrived early in the AM and walked through with me so I could notate what wasn’t done and items to fix. Today’s crew was neat - covered the carpeting on the stairs and floors upstairs. The issue with the cutout around the heating vent and the slat wall was fixed. Below is the before picture posted Friday and today’s fix. The crew also finished the left edge of the slat wall (which was left exposed by the crew on Friday). Crew added the crown moulding, finished 2nd closet in the MBR and adjusted the hanging rod in the laundry area.
As I said in my original post, the designer (Kim) was great to work with. Designs are fabulous and very functional. I actually have extra room in my closets!
I really appreciate the company standing by their work which is why I changed the rating.
Just a few thoughts on the entire job which hopefully helps the next person…
I recommend ordering a few extra shelves. I’m storing my shoes on the shelves and I could fit more shoes if the shelves had less space in between. Just a thought. I had not ordered the back of the units and have exposed drywall in the back. With doing 5 closets at one time, skipping the back saved a lot money which is a nice. With that said, my WIC walls are in bad shape as they have not been painted in 28 years. I wish I had spent the money to have the backs of the units in the MBR WIC which gets the most use. If the job is big, ask for an early AM start so timing isn’t an issue. It may push back the install a few days but it’s worth it.
Original review I will re-evaluate my rating and up it on Tuesday if the company follows through with their promise to correct.
Designer was fabulous and deserves a 5+ star rating. Nice to work with, very professional and I really like the design of the closets (very functional and tons of space!).
Install was a challenge and lowers the score. The purchase was multiple closets estimated to take 4 to 5 hours. Despite multiple assurances install would be complete in one day, even when told installers would be late and didn’t show up until 4:50. Installers were trying to leave by 7:00 when several components not done - claiming lack of light outside to make the cuts. When I offered the garage installer claimed it’s too cold. Noticed two install issues - instructed installer to cut slat board to fit around the heating vent. Installer cut the left edge of slat board and installed a few inches shy of the vent and left a large space around vent. He didn’t cut the board to fit the area - see picture. Also paid for laundry area cabinet and a rod to hang wet clothes on right out of the washer. The rod is so high and so far back over the washer that even at 5’ 11” I can’t hang clothes on the rod. Installers did nothing to protect the carpeting on my stairs and tracked salt in from the driveway and front walkway that was quickly ground into the carpeting.
Production manager promised the closets will be finished Tuesday morning. Unfortunately I couldn’t reach the production manager to show pictures of the slat board and the laundry area after the installer ran out of the house. If company makes this right on Tuesday I’ll up my rating because of the designer and the fact the designs are...
Read moreMy wife and I contracted with Closet By Design to install an open cabinet and shelf design. The shelves were to be 14 inches wide. Our salesman, Art, was friendly, professional, and accomodating. The installer, Trevor, was also very professional, did a nice job, and cleaned every bit of debris from the room. As for the closet design that was installed, my wife and I are extremely disappointed. We did not know that any clothing hung in the cabinet would extend beyond the cabinet frame. I did not know the measurement of a standard hangar, (17-18 inches), nor did I ask my salesman what it is. I did not ask my salesman if the clothing would be visible outside the cabinet frame. The photos I viewed of the open design did not appear to show this. After the installation, my wife and I checked the Clost By Design website to see if we maybe missed this. We did not. I then contacted the salesman and relayed my disappointment in the product. The salesman stated no one has ever asked and he never thought to explain that to any other customer. He explained that the normal sized shelf is 12 inches but the ones we purchased were 14. The shelves installed with the attached doors are 24 inch shelves to allow for the opening and closing of the door. I told the salesman it does not make sense to purchase cabinets only to have the items show outside the frame. He stated he would talk with his supervisor and determine if there is a remedy for our complaint. A couple of days later the salesman contacted me and stated the manager advised the company installed what was in the contract and nothing further would be done. The salesman also stated that there are some photos in the catalogue that do show the hung clothing extending beyond the cabinet frame. Did I look at every single photo in the catalogue, absolutely not. I looked at the first few pages and along with what is shown on the website, I based my decision to enter into a contract. I was also told by the salesman that if I would contract immedialtely, I would receive an additional 15 percent off my purchase. I feel the photos are deceptive. For the cost of this product, every detail should be explained, not just answer the questions that are asked. If I knew what the end product would be, I would have just purchased the materials at Home Depot and contracted an installer myself. Save myself some good money. If you want to pay top dollar for an open cabinet design, where you clothing will hang beyond the frame of your cabinet, and you are OK with this, I say Closet By Design is good for you. If you believe all your clothing will be contained within the cabinet itself, nothing visible outside the frame, move onto to another company or purchase the material and contract with an installer yourself. Not...
Read moreMy husband and I were referred to Closets by Design by our carpenter Chris Giovannetti, when we started to interview closet companies to use for our new Master Closet layout. Our experience with Closets by Design began with a fabulous first appointment with their designer Kate. She was inquisitive and asked many questions regarding the use of the space, so that she could provide us the most options. She is intuitive, knowledgeable with a brilliant mind for design and detail! She was flexible with the final design direction, understood our budget and we were able to enhance areas of the closet that made the most sense to us. One of the enhancements was a decorative panel material on the face of the raised drawer stack. When the drawer panels were installed, they were not what we expected visually and Closets by Design immediately worked with us to correct the face panel material to our satisfaction without delay. The closet installers were talented, efficient and friendly. They are part of the Closets by Design team and not subcontracted out which made for a smooth transition from paper to in-place because they know the material and understand the design. George, Jeff and the entire front office administrative team were all happy to help when we called... and answered all of our questions or pointed us in the right direction. The communication regarding product updates and install time scheduling was very impressive as well as, everyone answers the phone with a smile in their voice. Closets by Design is a top notch, well-oiled machine run company with an outstanding end product. The entire team was a joy to work with and always made us feel that our business was their number one priority and not just one of the many jobs that they were filling that day. Customer service was first rate, professional and they certainly aim to please. We could not be any happier with our new mini "Kardashian" closet (the first walk-in closet of our life!) Lastly, every time we walk into our new closet space, we are all smiles and 100% satisfied looking at the amazing job that Closets by Design did for us and how they will be a part of our home for the rest of our life. Many thanks to everyone at Closets by Design for a job...
