FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU TO THE FRANK FAMILY AND ARMIE NAVIE OF PORTSMOUTH FOR THE TICKET AND BEING A SPONSOR. The wife and I were there for the memorial race. The last race of the season. (Me first time since 1988 and the track was dirt. The wife had NEVER been.) WE'RE HOOKED! It's more expensive to buy a movie ticket than to get into the races. (Yes we were given tickets but I did look at the prices. They also have discounts for military, children, seniors and that's all I can remember.) I do mean races, plural! 4 races in 4 different classes (types of cars/truck) with 3 different age groups and and experience levels. This race, was a memorial to a driver who lost his life at this track. This night had a little more pomp and circumstance than the usual race. Start was at 6pm and ended just before 11 pm. I'm told the usual race night is about 6 pm to 10 pm. YOU MUST STAY TILL THE END ! ! ! They do save the best for last. Even the concessions are better. The popcorn isn't popped the night before. You want a hotdog? It comes right out of the hotdog cart. No waiting to "get it from the back". They have beer, coffee, hot chocolate, and of course t shirts, hoodies, sweat jackets, and eat muffs if you want or need. The staff is SOOOO friendly. Hell, I didn't meet a rude person anywhere. Kids running around playing,(Not obnoxiously or unattended) teenagers clustering, and adults (total strangers mind you) having friendly conversations, and willing to answer questions about what's going. (Without an attitude or a look of being bothered.) All this and it's outside so if you smoke/vape? No problem, everyone's very are aware and it's all very respectful. Hampton Roads is getting larger BUT this place with these people make you feel like you've been small-town neighbors forever. I cannot wait till my 14 month old granddaughter is old enough to go. That is another great point, bring ear muffs, ear plugs, hearing protection of some sort. (Definitely for the kids.) The noise level is of course different for different events and your choice of viewing position. Many adults, teenagers, and children did not have hearing protection. Should you decide you or someone in your group needs hearing protection it is sold at the races for a VERY REASONABLE price. (If you go to the range you can't buy hearing protection any cheaper.) I thought entertainment like this, with people like this, was a thing of the past. Well it ain't and I am grateful and excited for April and the start of the next season. Thank you again ARMIE NAVIE for the tickets. Thank you for showing us a safe and family friendly good time could still be had without breaking the bank. Lastly, bring cash. The concessions and tick windows take card but the concessions staff works for tips. I do mean work. They move with urgency so you miss as little of the track action as possible. While somehow still smiling and...
Read moreVisit: 4/10/21 My husband and I are from Hampton, VA but haven't lived here in almost 15 years. We also haven't been to this speedway since we were young kids. In town visiting family, he wanted to take our boys (9 & 11) for the first time. They had a blast! However, the great "guys night out" came to an end when his NC plates got called over the radio because he accidentally blocked someone in (3rd row that looked like every 2 rows but I guess he wasn't far enough back or something I'm not really sure, but it was not on purpose at all). Police Officer suggests walking him to his car to move it to be greeted by the infuriated lady who is screaming and cussing my husband out while her husband stayed in their car (thankfully his brother was there in the stands with the boys so they didn't have to hear it). He sincerely apologized to no avail and moved his car. He went back to the stands to enjoy the last hour if that to only return to his car when it was time to leave and it was severely keyed. Can't prove it was the lady, but considering what just happened I will let you be the judge of that. He went and got the same Police Officer for a report (which sucks for him, too, but needed for insurance) and asked if he had the plates of that lady's car. All he said was it was a Maroon Taurus so beware! Such a senseless act. Just mean. My suggestion is for better defined parking and maybe cameras? I don't know. Also, my oldest kept his mask on the entire time to avoid all of the smoking happening right around him...wish there was at least smoke free areas for kids. Not sure if we will go back. I'm really sad such a good night was ruined. Probably a good thing I wasn't there for all of that...
Read moreI would love to say , " I loved this place " . BUT I can't. Regardless of laws changing about Marijuana . My 4 year old smelling it asking what is that smell . Wasn't a good experience. Just because it's legal doesn't mean business have to allowed on their property. Just like smoking indoors isn't allowed on some businesses..... I used to smoke cigarettes and quit that's on me but all those little kids including my own breathing in second hand smoke from cigarettes plus Marijuana?. Definitely not a family place regardless of the play ground that was there , apparently it is ok to smoke around kids because all the police that was there didn't even ask the adults to smoke elsewhere. ......
Enough on that . The track itself was fun . The announcement crew was great , service from vendors was great. Not to pricey either which was really nice . Over all it wasn't a bad experience. My son and I did have a great time. Just was comfortable having him breath in all the second hand smoke from cigarettes and Marijuana. It seemed like no matter where we moved to it was there .
Probably will not be going back as a family . And do not suggest it to other families as well. If it's an adult night...
