I had my deer processing completed by Tank's Meats. The deer was skinned and aged 3 days prior to taking it there. I filled out a processing form requesting butterfly backstraps, roasts and the rest into burger mixed with beef. I picked the meat up 3 weeks later as promised. To my surprise, I only had the backstraps and burger. The carcass was healthy looking with one fully intact front shoulder and two perfect hind quarters. I questioned why I did not have any roasts. I was fully expecting to receive another box of meat with the roasts. (This has happened in the past at Tank's Meats). The butcher came out and gave me b.s. excuses that the quarters were all blood shot and had to be cut up. The butcher further more told me that they don't keep any meat back, they don't do things that way at Tank's. I was told that, without asking or leaning the conversation that way. I am not sure if there truly was an error on Tank's part, incompetence or someone just does not care. I was told by a different employee about the pure volume of deer and how overwhelmed they were with the '22 gun season. I normally do not complain. On a positive note Tank's Meats do have good products.
To someone that is not a deer hunter, the non deer hunter probably does not comprehend what is involved in the deer hunting process. There are countless hours in setting the property up for deer hunting in the off season and preseason. There are countless hours of hunting during the season to bag the buck. A person is only allowed one buck per year. As a conservation effort, I choose not to harvest does on my property to maintain future "seed" for future deer hunting. So as you can see I will have to wait a full year for venison roasts. This is a true...
Read moreI bought breakfast sausage from them a few years ago where I workedand it was so good I had to get some for myself. I was so excited to have some but when I went to cook it up it was so gristly I kept having to pick pieces out of my mouth that I couldn't chew. I also got ham hocks from them and they were delicious, but unfortunately I highly doubt I'll be back there. Considering that was my first time at their store and it's kind of a far drive. I will say if I thought it was worth it I'd drive out of my way to go there like I did that time, but now I won't :/...
Read moreDrove out to Elmore to check out Tanks at the recommendation of a neighbor. For $40 we walked away with a roast, two ribeyes, a meatloaf and some snacks. Not bad considering the price of meat these days. However we cooked one of the ribeyes that same day and it was tough. So I'm not sure if it was worth the drive or not, but will hold out judgement until I try the other items. However, I must admit when we pulled into our parking space and opened the door, the parking lot smelled heavenly! Full of that delish smoke pit smell that filled...
