We stayed at the hotel and received two free luau tickets through our booking with Costco. Our luau was indoor because of weather. Upon check-in, there are drinks, a few vendors, and some cultural activities available while you wait (bracelet making, poi tasting, stamps, etc). The staff was very friendly. The food was buffet style. We had low expectations for the food and were pleasantly surprised. We had general admission seating, but we don't feel like we missed anything. It seems a bit expensive to do the preferred seating, but if it is your first luau, you might like that. While it is expensive, it seemed on par for what you would expect to pay for any other luau at a resort. The show was fun. It told some history of Hawaii and ended with some Tahitian dances and Samoan fire knife dance. (When indoor, you move outside under the covered area in front for the fire knife performance.) Some people complained about the "cowboy" or paniolo dance, but that is an important part of Hawaiian history and culture, especially on the Big Island. It wasn't the best luau we have been to, but it was definitely not a bad choice. The dancers were all talented and friendly. The MC was fun and engaging. The musicians were great!
Again, you are going to a luau at a resort. So if you keep that in mind, I think you will have an enjoyable experience. If you have been to other luaus and are worried about the price, I would recommend skipping. And if you are on the fence about spending the extra money, I don't think it is worth paying for the...
Read moreI attended this Luau September 2024. Parking was good, with plenty of room. Check in started on time and was given good information. They had a photographer there to take your picture with your friends and family before the Luau. Once you enter the theater area they had a few games you could try and play, wrist lei making tutorials and you got to build your own if you desired. They also had some local vendors with items they made that you could buy. Now the reason it says 4 stars is because you can't do half stars like 4.5 stars is what I would of given it. The reason for the minus deduction is that the food was not hot. It was warm but not hot. The food tasted great. Even the appetizer tray at your table had good food. The staff was great and professional and you hardly even knew they were there. The music was all done live and they did a great job. The bass guitarist was slick playing with one hand only. The luau dancers were also great, super friendly and assisted with some of the pre-show festivities. Their dancing was great and syncronized. Even there facial expressions right down to the toe taps and finger gestures we're done with passion and grace. They really pay attention to the smaller details. The show was great overall with several different dances. I think the only dance missing was the Haka which I would love to see in person. I would definitely recommend the Feast and Fire Luau. You won't be...
Read moreIs this the most authentic experience you are ever going to see on the island? Nope.
Is it a great time? Absolutely.
The staff was great, respectful, and seemed there to actually have everyone have a good time. The pre-show activities were simple but fun bite-sized experiences to get in the mood.
The food was delicious. They ask you pre-show if you have any allergies and accommodate for that (again, very respectfully). I am a picky eater to be sure and I nearly cleaned my plate (there was one small root vegetable that was a bit sweet for me. Still great, just not my thing). It is a tad salt heavy, but that's not too uncommon and understandable. Sure there were a few flies, but the joys of outdoor eating.
The show. Wow. Again, it isn't the 100% authentic experience (it is a bit touristy), but that's okay. It was fun. Although it seemed these entertainers and dancers have done this quite a few times, they seemed to genuinely have a great time. Think of it as more of a sampling of cultures that make up Hawaiian culture and less of a super-traditional experience.
It was insanely entertaining though, and that's the key. Even though you could feel that they have done this show quite a few times, everyone there seemed to genuinely have fun, and that energy flowed into the audience. My wife, son, and I laughed, learned, and just had a great time.
Overall, we just had an amazing time and would easily...
