Hayward Golf Course — Local services in Hayward

Why I won't be going back to HGC: 95 degrees. We were told no motorized carts because of the previous night's rain. Others there with tee times couldn't believe it & simply didn't play when told the only option was to walk: middle of the afternoon tee time with no sign of any standing water to be seen anywhere on an extremely hot day. Staying on cart path or 90 degrees would have made much more sense over no carts at all. So we paid for walking cart rental for carts that had no beverage container holders for bringing along our own water.Then NO drinking water ANYWHERE on the course. When stopping after 9 holes with heatstroke-like symptoms we were told they were out of water & a shipment was coming in tomorrow so didn't play the back 9. Next day we golfed 18 holes at Big Fish where there were many golfers on a hot day & several coolers filled with complimentary water bottles on each 9. HGC may actually be a nice course like we'd heard, but the lack of concern for golfers' welfare demonstrated by the course in those hot conditions was sad. Common sense/courtesy is simply go buy some water at Walmart & put it on the course....

I’ve always heard about the Hayward area and how it had some great golf. So I decided to get up there and finally try it out. I played Hayward for the first time back in early June was extremely impressed. The tee boxes are flat, the fairways lush, and the greens roll perfectly. It is extremely well maintained and constantly being improved. Making a tee time is very easy and the staff has always been very accommodating. I enjoyed it so much that I just wrapped up my third trip in about six weeks up there from the cities to play it.

The course is absolutely beautiful, an up North course with gorgeous mature pines, stunning landscaping with colorful flowers, might even see a black bear run across the fairway! It is well maintained, a fair yet challenging course. Seems like a private rather than a municipal course. Friendly helpful staff to greet and help you in the pro shop as well.
