Do not let the name fool you. This place is just a clinic, not a hospital. My boyfriend and I recently tried to go here because one of our cats was actively bleeding heavily from his backside, and we were furious with the way we were treated. When we came in and explained what was going on, we were asked if we scheduled an appointment. Of course we hadn't -- who schedules an appointment for a potential emergency? You don't. You grab your pet and book it to the nearest "hospital". After we confirmed we didn't have one, we waited a full five minutes for the woman working with us to see if they had time for us, while she appeared to dally about in the backroom with her coworkers, only to be told it would be a couple hours because they already had appointments for other "emergencies" booked up.
Perhaps those appointments were actual emergencies, I can't say. I certainly can't wish ill on another animal that may have a threatening issue. What I can say is that I don't believe anyone who has the time to wait for an appointment has an actual life or death emergency for their pet. It is absolutely appalling that two clearly distressed pet owners with an animal that was ACTIVELY BLEEDING FROM ITS REAR would be told they would have to schedule an appointment for later.
If you care about your pet, forget about this place and make the drive to the AVC in Manchester. They are 24 hours, with professional staff that are always willing to take emergency walk ins, and will never turn you or your pet away. They are worth the drive.
This place should not advertise itself as a hospital if it isn't one. I would give it zero stars if the rating system would allow it. Only time we've ever tried to go, and we will never again make the mistake of wasting time on our way to AVC to see if this place can help us sooner,...
Read moreExcellent care! I called to have my cat, Star, seen after 3 days of vomiting. My vet could not see her and referred to emergency vet. My coworker referred to Henniker as I had just moved to Hillsboro last month. Henniker offered me an immediate appt within the next hour due to a cancellation. Amazing! I was as able to pick up my cat, grab vet records of her history and vaccination s and was seen quickly. Staff copied my records, reviewed a plan of care giving options and estimate of charges. Dr. DeGennaro was wonderful...reviewing X-rays and labs. Star was given IV fluids, anti emetic and pain meds. I opted to bring her home overnight as there is no overnight staff, but asked to call if she was vomiting the next day. I called the next day as she had rested and had sedation, but was not eating drinking or using the litter. Dr. DeGennara gave me the option of coming in for IV fluids or overnight stay. I opted for the overnight after being given potential charges. She called first thing in the morning with an update and reported she started to eat and move bowels. She gave me a course of treatment and said I could pick her up today. So far so good. She is looking more alert. I was giving clear direction and instructions from the doctor and her support staff. I was also told that if anything happened on Sunday to call as there was an on call staff. Thank you very much for your expertise and professionalism. I will be making Henniker her...
Read moreHaving such a great Vet right in our home town is amazing. We moved to Henniker a while ago with a 3 year old pup. The staff took great care of him all the way until we unfortunately had to put him down. He was not dog friendly and that makes going to the vet difficult, but not at the Henniker Vet Hospital. They would let me take him in through the side door and help avoid all the headaches of the lobby. We now have a brand new puppy, we wanted to make sure that our puppy was healthy. We made an appointment with them before we picked up the puppy and where able to get in and have her checked out to make sure everything was good. I thought the vet was going to try to adopt our puppy, she was so good with our new fur baby. The puppy even fell asleep on the exam table. They are super professional and courteous. Many times trips to the vet can be emotionally stressing and can really be a hard time, the staff at Henniker Vet do a great job of making sure that as a pet parent you are comforted and aware of what is going on. Sometimes that news is very hard to take, sometimes that news has you leaving with a face full of tears, but the staff will always make sure you and your furry friend are...
