Dakota Stone Rock Shop/Not Dakota Stone Mining & Stone Supply — Local services in Hill City

If you are traveling with Dogs, they are not welcome here. Apparently, There is a sign outdoors, which I did not see - After this experience, I learned they are not allowed in the outdoor area. I stepped into the doorway of the shop to ask for gloves so I could weigh a rock to purchase from the outside area, I Immediately was asked if they were service dogs and I stated no, And said I was just stepping in to grab a pair of gloves As the sign says on the rock display. So I got the gloves and went outside And continued to pick out a rock to be weighed - the man inside came darting out - And asked me what my disability was? Which i was confused because I stated quite clearly they were not service dogs? I Did explain they were well-behaved And then he proceeded to say it was OK - Which at that point I was A bit uncomfortable of why he asked me what my disability was? I Understand it’s his business, But it was just a really Odd, uncomfortable encounter so I decided to leave. I guess it save me some...

FABULOUS employees, Norm & Tanya!!! Super nice people who know their stuff and so very helpful!! The shop and yard are very tidy and prices are VERY affordable and fair! Will definately make this a continued destination from now on! And, for the record, DO NOT visit Kens Rock Shop in Custer!! Staff was very rude and snotty. NOTHING outside is for sale! It's all for looks and I hot the stones literally taken out of my hands as they stated they weren't for sale. The outside piles of rock are to bait you inside! At Dakota Rock Shop, EVERYTHING is for sale and so much fun digging through! If you are rockhounds like me, you'll probly t ake 2-3 hours to look...

We spent one day visiting many of the rock shops in the Black Hills area. This was one of our favorites! They had a great selection and a pleasant atmosphere. I got an AWESOME Labradorite from the inside shop and found a little Fluorite and Blue Calcite I liked from digging through their outside bins. On our trip home, my mom regretted not getting a small Rose Quartz heart from them. I emailed the shop with a description of where we left it and the general price range... and they promptly sent me pictures of the options so I could identify it.
