I went in to have a porcelain sign appraised. I got the "well it's only worth what someone is willing to give you for it" speech first. He then said bigger isn't always better because the sign was 22 inches tall, 5 foot wide and heavy as hell. I was explaining how I found some signs in an old garage loft in CT but I was interrupted too much. He took pictures with his phone and he was in touch with someone so I started wandering around looking at all the overpriced stuff. He then said it would look good on the wall of his garage. He offered me $300.oo for it. I only wanted an appraisal. I left with my sign. Later I learned from a different appraiser that the sign was in amazing shape and worth $1500.oo maybe more at auction. Along with furniture, glassware, coins, etc, there was a nice collection of affordable clocks ($100 to $200), albeit in various states of functionality. They also have a wide assortment of alarm clocks in the $10 to $20 range, some of which still work. Great place to go to find a nice old treasure for an affordable price, or to get some nice antique furniture.
