Great Hall Iron is an extraordinary barbell/functional fitness facility, made all the more amazing by being such a well-equipped facility in Homer, Alaska.
Great Hall Iron has the tools a person needs to become the fittest version of themselves. As of October 2023, the workout area includes a heavy duty Hammer Strength dual power rack with a center pull-up station. It also includes six plate-loaded Hammer Strength machines, as well as a Rogue GHD and reverse hyper. There is a stand-alone flat bench and incline bench, dumbbells from very small to 125 lbs, kettlebells to 40 kg/88 lbs, and an assortment of flat and adjustable incline benches. The cardio area has two each of treadmills, elliptical, and rowers, and one stationary bike.
Most of the barbells are Hammer Strength with moderate knurl and no center knurl. But Great Hall also has a Texas Deadlift Bar, Texas Squat Bar, and Texas Bench Bar.
They have a significant amount of Kabuki equipment, including the Transformer Bar, step-in trap deadlift bar, Kadillac Bar, and Duffalo Bar. They also have a Bells of Steel IPF-style power bar with thin collars and aggressive knurling.
It is a very inclusive environment, with more than half female members and members of all body types. In addition to a waiver, you will have to sign a “no harassment” acknowledgment - awesome!
It’s also useful to say what Great Hall Iron is not. It’s not a glam fitness facility with mirrors everywhere and tons of selectorized machines. That’s just not what they are.
It is also not a CrossFit affiliate. If you are in town and looking to get in a WOD they will have a lot of your tools, but there are no group fitness classes, and no sound system. Folks come in, put on their headphones, and do their thing.
And it is not a barbell dungeon. It is well lit and clean. Chalk is allowed but not provided, and there is a strong ethos of cleaning up after one’s self.
Overall an extraordinary facility is one of Alaska’s most...
Read moreGreat little gym that has everything you need to get in cardio and great pump. Located off Ocean or Lake st, guess it depends on which way you’re coming from, it’s easy to find. Parking is shared with other business, however is plenty big enough for you. RhinoFit keypad entry requires online registration, whoever it allows you the ease of 24 hour access and use. I would’ve like more cable options, however there are band options that have pretty decent resistance, located on one of the squat racks. The bathrooms are super clean, and the floors are as well. You have to change your shoes at the door and wear only gym shoes inside; which I greatly appreciate. Not only does it make it easier for the owner to keep clean, it keeps everyone else clean. Another great thing about the gym, is out of the 7 days I was there to use it, there were no more than 5 people at a time in there, which keeps it easy to switch from lift to lift, or exercise to exercise without having to wait on someone. Everyone seemed really friendly, no gym assholes. Will definitely workout there again when I return someday. Thanks Dan, Airborne, RTLW, DOL, scouts out, sappers, hooah hooyah oorah yut...
