Craig is PHENOMENAL. I have been to multiple voice teachers briefly, and I have to say, that Craig is the best. While each teacher offers their own strengths and weaknesses, Craig is all strengths. I have sang for years with no changes or improvements, but then I start going to Singing Sensei, and each lesson with Craig leads to MAJOR break throughs!

First off, he is a true technician and expert. He REALLY knows his stuff inside and out. You will receive concrete, data and researched based teachings. He is able to read the situation of what’s going on with your voice and teach what to do to improve singing in a healthy and efficient way.

Second, he is a skilled teacher. He is able to pace concepts according to the student’s abilities. He is able to convey and explain concepts in an understandable way and help you implement the changes immediately.

Third, he has a warm and calm presence, that allows one to feel comfortable asking questions, singing (which is already a scary thing), making mistakes, and trying again. He brings in the permission to be vulnerable and creative with music. He instills confidence and courage in his students.

Fourth, he truly cares about his students. I was suffering from overuse from a performance and he could have been greedy and had me keep coming back to him for the month of lessons so that he would be paid. Instead, he encouraged me to take time off and rest his voice. He prioritizes his student’s health and wellbeing over himself.

Lastly, he is flexible with adult students when it comes to scheduling and life happening. As an adult student, this is so valuable because our lives are crazy and we have different demands.

From beginner to advanced students, children to adults, he has SO much to offer.

I've had 3 voice teachers in the past, and none have made such an impact on my singing as Craig has. ngl, I wasn't impressed at first, but we found our rhythm after 3 lessons, and my level improved by leaps and bounds within a couple of months. I never even knew what a mixed voice was before him, but him helping find it was so transformative. I came to him an amateur, and within months, I am singing professionally with a band! I get excited when it's time to come see him (twice per week) bc I know we're going to hit another milestone, or achieve another new vocal ability! And the huge smile on his face when I get that "aha" moment, you can just tell her takes personal joy, pride and gratification in the knowledge that he had a hand in that (in my progression). Been coming here for years and it’s been amazing!! Before, I had very little understanding of vocal technique and ability. But the lessons are very in depth and help you to reach your full potential as a singer, whether it is just to get better at karaoke or to hone professional skills. Craig Shimizu is an excellent teacher, who is always patient and kind, affirming and positive, so they the student feels comfortable in their space and immerse themself into the teaching.
