Liliha Public Library — Attraction in Honolulu

I just returned from Liliha library and was so disappointed. Having been going there for the past year with no problem, I was taken aback today when a young black male was first approached, then me, and we were both told that where we were sitting (separate charging tables) was an Asian preferred reading area and if an Asian wanted to sit in that area we would be asked to move. There is no sign that states this (not that they would place one out anyway) and this has never been brought to my attention before. I thought this was a PUBLIC library. Needless to say I will be going to the Main library...

Smaller Chinese collection than I remembered but not bad. Childrens is same location, behind the gate with blue bookcase in pictures, near entrance, which also has $1 flat rate book sale on the left. The bookshelves seem to be much lower than I remembered as a short kid. :/ Adult fiction is on the wall shelves along with classics. YA plus manga is now next to check out desk on the left across from nonfiction. CDs albums for rent next to computers. 15 cents for black...

Great place. It is convenient and perfect! Ample parking. Although it may not look like there isn't much parking, a few stalls in front. PARKING IS UPSTAIRS ON THE ROOFTOP. they remodeled, so no more carpet. Lol. Brighter lighting, moved some things around and made it look more spacious. Staff is still friendly and welcoming as ever.
